Default Smart-Fly power expander on 2.4??

Alright, here is the deal.

I want to put a 2.4 Spektrum in my 40%. Has anyone used a power expander with the Spektrum, and what was the result? Also, did they use Li-Po batteries?

I have a couple planes coming together right now that I would like to do this setup. If you need a guinee pig, I'll volenteer.

David

I am setting one up for Smartfly right now. The one thing I ran into was to set the failsafe. The DX 7 failsafe is set by binding the unit after all the controls have been set, especially throttle.

To bind the unit you have to use there switch into the battery port on the rx. So I disconnected the rx from the Power Expander and plugged in the JR switch like the manual shows. Then I plugged the rx back into the power expander and all is working fine and the failsafe is set.

Man, I'm glad to see you guys started a thread on this setup. I was about to ask the same question, as i want to set up a new 41% plane this way.... anyone else do this and fly it yet?

Like I replied to you in the other thread, I've set it up and it works fine. That was with a 2 x 2400 lithiums, Smartfly super-reg, and Smartfly Power Expander.

That's not entirely true, it'll bind with any 3 wire switch, or with the bind plug plugged into the battery port on the receiver. I didn't have the switch handy on my second one (since I had already installed it in another plane), so I plugged a battery into one of the servo ports and the bind plug into the battery port. Worked great.

This is great! There is going to be all kinds of first hand experience with the Spectrum in 40%'ers before I get around to dropping it into my Carden and Dalton. Can't wait to hear what you guys think!!

Tony,
If you think of it shoot me a line after you fly yours with the Power Expander (if you have not already flown it). Now I really envy you being in AZ, we have 5 inches of snow on the ground as of this past weekend. Bet you wish you would have moved back to IA too....ha

I don't man, nothing but junk for me, but I happen to have Kevin's old 35% Edge in my shop, so I tried it on that.

I was just binding it they way they show in the manual. I use the switch that is built into the power expander so I had to install there switch. This is my first time using the DX7 so I was just setting up the failsafe the way they were showing in the manual.

Kevin, I haven't flown it yet. It has been to cold here. We had a high of 44 on Sunday and 47 on Saturday. Thats to cold to fly! I had 30 years of winter, I'm not even going to visit relatives between November and March.
