I personally think they are all good. It's just a matter of personal preference. The big thing is just going to Spread Spectrum for the added safety.

Last week at out field we were flying and all of a sudden to the north a little park flyer appeared in the air. Everybody landed and shut down. Turned out it was a guy that just left the hobby shop with his new park flyer, and saw the large area 1/2 mile north of our field and took off. he had no clue about frequency control, and interferance etc.

Had one of the 30% IMAC guys been on his channel, it would have been a disaster.

That and the really better sense of control is well worth it.

XPS has a comprison chart at the bottom of their home page. Gve some idea of the differences.

Here is a link for the real lowdown on 2.4 and product comparisons from a source other than a manufacturer.

Here are some links to general information on SS technology. Some of them are a little technical. They look pretty good to me (I’m an engineer with an RF, embedded design and communications background) but I make no claim as to their accuracy. Also, like anything on the web, you can’t always tell how good the info is because you don’t always know who the sources are, or what biases they’re bringing to the party.

Default Receiver options with Airtronics and Futaba

I fly both large 3D gassers and all carbon/kevlar molded gliders. I've been following threads on a lot of the glider sites regarding the trials and tribulations of using the JR / Spektrum stuff, and reading up on the experiences of the jet crowd.

Well, after a ton of reading and research, I've decided that Futaba and Airtronics is the way to go for me, because I think that freq hopping seems a bit more reliable (just my humble opinion), and having to deal with extra little Rx's is a hassle to me. I like that I can also extend the antennas on the Futaba and Airtronics Rx's, and only have to make sure that the little bare ends are clear of any carbon or metal and oriented 90 deg to each other. With the new 10C, I think Futaba may finally have something to compete with the JR9303 for those of us who like to fly gliders! The programming on the Futaba radios has always been my complaint, but I think I'm going to go for it with the 10C, and I'm also going to pick up at least one Airtronics RDS8000. Man, that has got to be the most radio you can buy for that price, hands down!

Now, my big question is: is Airtronics going to offer some smaller Rx's (fewer channels) that will work with the RDS8000? And second, what Rx's are compatible with Futaba's new 10C and 12FGA?

I only wish that Multiplex still manufactured and supported the Profi 4000 radio and offered it as a dedicated FHSS system. I would be in hog heaven then, cause that radio is still the most versatile and capable radio I've ever had the pleasure to use.

How do Faast and Airtronics handle the Multipath issue? I have read many tech docs and that seems to be one of the biggest problems in the higher frequencys. With such a short wave lenght you need multiple antennas spaced more the a wave lenght apart. The wave length on 2.4GHZ is just over 4 inch.

REDUNDANCY! REDUNDANCY! We all load our planes up with dual rx's dual batt's etc... i love the idea of several remote rx's in function together. i love the idea that line of sight is covered by all angles. i use the jr 9303 and fly specktrum 9000 and 9100 rx's. i am COMPLETELY satisfied. i used the spektrum DX-7 for a while and really enjoyed that radio but needed the flight mode capabilities that come with the JR. my father flies FASST (long time futaba guy) and he is completely satisfied with that. their one rx is working fine in dad's 30% stuff. i fly 42% ers and i want as much rx redundancy as i can get just to protect the thousands of $$$$$$$ in the air!

Ok Spectrum 2.4 guru's I have a question to post. Today had a good first flight, non eventfull.Second preflight ,I turn on TX,turn on RX, do my surface checks, all OK,flip the engine to choke, turn off choke, ign. on ,fire the engine ,do a short run-up,still OK,then throttle goes to full and I have ZERO control, did not even go to fail safe, which is ign. off, choke on throttle at idle.We get the plane shut down, every thing is booted up,but do not have a bind.We do a battery check,6.9v with a 3amp load on both batteries,do a rebind and everything seems to be ok,WHAT THE HECK WAS THE CAUSE for this ,need help and imputs please, thanks Donnie

Here is how I bind my JR Spektrum receivers. I have not had a problem since doing it this way.

1. Bind the receiver
- Insert bind plug into receiver
- power on receiver
- turn on transmitter with bind button pressed on back
- remove the bind plug and power off everything
2. Set the servos, throws and everything else like you would fly the plane.
3. Rebind the receiver (see step 1)
4. I do one more rebind except ..
- after I power up the receiver I pull the bind plug out.
- Then I turn on the receiver with the bind button pushed.
5. I power everything off..turn it back on and test fail safe
6. Turn it all on..hold all sticks at full deflection and turn off the transmitter with everything fully deflected. If you did this right as soon as you turn off the tranmitter all surfaces should return to neutral and throttle should be fully closed.
7. Range check
8. Go fly
