The chart on the front page of his site he notes that all his competitors systems are "line of sight" while his system is "up to 5-miles". He even encloses the competitors line of sight in " " marks, which generally denotes a negative emphasis. An effective marketing technique in my view. He does use line of sight for his system elsewhere, but in the comparison chart he does not, except for his competitor's systems. In the end all of the marketing hype between the various systems strikes me to be similar to the gasoline companies each trying to convince us that their gasoline is better than the other guy's.

It's clever........not many people can see their plane at 5miles.......so line of sight is correct. His will work out of the line of sight of your mark one eyeball.

My concern with the 2.4 stuff is the line of site statement, what will happen if someone walks in front of you say to go get their bird off of the taxiway when you are flying low like in a hover or harrier. I've been trying to test this therory with some of the guys who have a DX7 but for some reason they don't want to.![]() I've had people walk in front of me while flying 72 MHZ and have no problems. I just want to know if it will be the same with 2.4. Sounds like you guys have tried to break the link without success. thats great. Can't wait for them to come out with the Universal for the 14 MZ so I can try it. Last edited by RollingHarrier; 04-24-2007 at 04:14 PM. |

My system went through my garage wall at an extended amount of time. I am not worried about a split second that someone may be infront of me. With the ground testing I've done I'm not worried. And yes I'll flight test it for you on my 35%. Then we will all know. |

XPS needs a switch to instantly increase the power to 1300Watts - that will show them ! Reminds me of when I was a kid and we took apart microwave over with a satellite dish and scared the s**t out of pigeons.... P.

Judge, I agree with you that Jim has an unorthodox (sometimes abrasive) way of marketing. However, I take the quotes in his chart to mean that he is referencing their claim of range, and has not verified it himself. Not an uncommon way of referencing such things, and I don't see the negative connotation in this. Time will tell if there really is a difference in the performance of the new 2.4 products. But do you really expect anyone to market by saying that they are just about the same as everyone else? -STEVE- |

If someone walks in front of you the system should be looking to change channel etc and by the time it has decided that it needs to go into failsafe the person would have gone and signal restored. If you are stupid enough to let some one stand in front of you when your flying you deserve to crash. As far as I have seen down under no one should be on the runway without checking if low flying aircraft are there (landing, low pass or aerobatics) If someone stood in front of me I would kick him in the butt. I think everybody is waiting for someone or Jim to give a gold plated guarantee that they will not crash with the XPS system. Be real, like all electronics it will fail for various reasons even if you do all the right things. We fly different radio systems (JR,Futaba etc) because we like the feel or options and maybe price. 2.4 is no different, choose what you feel happy with, don't try to make the system fit you. Well I have had more than my 2JR,FutabaI will sit back and see what people think at the same time as I read post while I decide what 2.4 system I will buy. yea clive45 Even i am thinking the same, i thought that the 2.4 are very reliable but after hearing so many things about it i am quite scared about it, these manufacturers must have done lot of R& D before they launched the systems. What i am thinking is people may not be following proper manufacturers installation guide lines of these radio equipment... OR may be trying to show one brand better than the other. Harry |
