I have 10 flights with my futaba fast system on our UAV down here in Brisbane, Australia. Most impressive thing to me is the resolution and speed Chris |

I have about 4 hours of flight time over the last 2 days on an Xlink in a Twist 150 with an OS 1.20. No problems of any kind, works as advertised, my transmitter looks funny in the tray with out the regular antenna. Once, I was getting ready to take off today and I had a fellow flyer come running up to me yelling: your antenna is down, we both had a good laugh when he found out I was on 2.4 with the Xlink, with a tray the Xlink antenna is almost invisable.

Bob Trueworthy and I both received our modules and AR900 Spektrum receivers this past week. I put mine in my 37% Yak, Bob in his 40% Yak. Modules were both used in 10X's. After a succesful range test with engines running, we took to the air. Both setups performed flawlessly. Never any signs of any signal loss and planes felt rock solid. I am 100% sold! No more frequency pins for me!!! Good work Spektrum Craig |

I have looked at the 3 technologies, Xlink, Fasst and DSM2. I asked a lot of questions at the Toledo show, XPS was right next to us so I got time to talk to them, then I went and grilled the Futaba guys and the DSM2 experts. I came to the conclusion that, even though I have flown Futaba since my first radio control plane, I will be using the Spektrum/JR for 2.4 Ghz. I already own a DX7 radio and have flown it in several planes. I now use it exclusively on anything that I care about. The things I like. 1. Multiple receivers in different locations in the plane mean the signal is less likely to get blocked by the engine or some other object. 2. DSM2 grabs two channels and holds on to them. XPS uses one channel and does not reserve it, it only grabs the channel when necessary to send a frame. They explained it as being like ethernet, CSMA/CD. This can, theoretically, result in a delay in delivering a frame if someone else is on that channel when they want to use it. I also think the XPS two way protocol is unnecessarily complex. 3. DSM transmitters rearrange the transmitted signals to transmit mixed channels first. This seems to result in more responsiveness on things like dual elevators servos where it's critical that both servos move in unison. 4. The AR 9000 has provisions for data logging which the others don't seem to have addressed. I think this will be very useful in the future. 5. JR will have a reasonably priced transmitter with integrated DSM2 (the X9303) very soon. I don't want a plug in module, this seems kind of temporary, and I don't need a 12 channel $1,000 transmitter. Any thoughts? TF |

Well you hit on a lot of things I too like about the Spektrum/JR systems, another thing is that with the new JR 9303 2.4 dedicated radio it will run your DX 7000 units as easy as binding your new radio too them as I understand it, and yes they are reasonably priced, and due out in July. Have one on backorder myself.... As far as the new Futaba goes I think they will be great also but a little too pricey for me, but looks like a nice radio. The XPS system seem to be working for a lot of guys, but IMO they are just a plug and play system that works, but I really don't think they will be as fast as the JR and Futaba dedicated radio systems, and if you had radio problems I don't think JR or Futaba are going to help you out when you tell them you plugged in an after market system and my radio isn't working properly. I have had my DX-7 since they were released and love the quickness of the system and have had zero issues. |

I just bought a new DX7 on Friday, charged it up Friday night, set it up in a javelin as my "test bed" in preparation for it going into my brand new WH 50cc Sukhoi that Tom is supposed to be shipping to me when they arrive. The programming is easy to understand. The thing that I noticed is the speed on the throttle. Its darn near think it see it fast. Extremely easy to set up, range check was spot on. The reaction time is great, just going to take a little time to get used to it being quicker. I wanted to be able to wait on the 9303 2.4, but bought this in the interim, figured when the 9303 is available I will sell this radio. Wonder why JR/Spektrum and the others couldn't have had this setup ready to go for the flying season instead of waiting until the summer was half over?

You forgot: 6. "Model Match" aka never gain control with the wrong model memory selected. Its saved my airplane at least twice. Only the integrated systems support this. I wouldn't go back to a system that doesn't do this. |

I flew next to my friend yesterday with his 9303 with Spektrum module with my 8uaf with XPS module and can assure you his is no faster or reliable than mine. There are several great systems out there so pick the one you like but please, leave conjecture, feel, and thoughts out if there is no proof to warrant such claims. All that does is start the rumor mill which benefits no one. | ||||||||||||||||||
