| Catman You may have pre-empted my question. It may be that these larger models with large ‘green house’ canopies are just getting too darn hot inside. Can I ask, has anyone tried the same test (heat gun if you wish) with a Futaba 72 meg rx? It may be an interesting comparison ‘yardstick’. Paul |

I have been using these receivers for about 4 months now. Well over 200 flights. Running through a pb champion. Never had an issue. I am wondering if running a powerbox decreases the heat delta for the receiver enough to keep it from being a problem? Since there is not much voltage going through the receiver. I am flying a 2.6M yak with cans, and no real venting. I am concerned about my new Dalton MEL 300, with greeves, and no tunnel though.

I heard futaba just came out with a fix. You have to place an ice cube on top of the receiver before every flight and two ice cubes if you live in arizona. ![]() Albert

My new Fasst 2.4 6014 RX failed with and more than 9 times and I am not using cans or a power box. Just using a DA100 with standard mufflers, and 1 - 6014RX. I am am using 6-8611A servos and 1 8711 servo on the rudder exactly like Quique recommends. Big problem for me is that with the Quique Python, my receiver is sitting right on top under the canopy getting the green house effect. As long as my plane is sitting in the sun the receiver loses link wether the motor is running or not. In my case, a power box or cans has nothing to do with the receiver locking out. This receiver is approx. 33 days old with 5 flights on it.

I did about 15flights right now... Using the reciever in my 110" EF Yak 54 with an emcotec dspi system. No problem, everything is working super.

Just for fun I took a 5014 PCM Rx and started to "cook it" with my heat gun. Now there is no link light on PCM... so I hooked up 1 single servo. I got that case as hot as I dared (240f - thats past boiling point right?) The servo still moved fine after 2 mins of super heating - the case was hot enough that touching it would burn your hand (not much but you would for sure feel it.) I have been doing my testing on Rx's outside the airplane with no servo plugged in at all. Just a 4-cell pack (around 5 to 5.2v nominal.) I did a 607 Rx - this time I kept the heat gun far back and heated slowly. It took quite a while but eventually it went red too. And it stayed red until the case was barely warm to the touch. This one went off at a much lower temperature - the case was only around 130f. I measured my cases on Monday in the plane after sitting in the sun for 10 or 15 mins. It was maybe 70f outside and the cases were at 121f. When the red light comes on you can CLEARLY hear something go "click" in the Rx and the same when it comes back to green (on the 6014.) On the 607 I didn't hear anything. Now I am a little worried. I will for sure be putting a cover over my canopy from now on though and I will keep an eye on things with my temp gun in case I am wrong. With air moving through the fuse the Rx should stay cooler - but letting it sit in the sun seems like a big risk. Maybe something as simple as a white case that reflects heat vs. the black heat absorbing case would be better in a hot climate? Gray - you fly jets right? How warm does it get inside the fuse? Have you ever seen any failsafes having the Rx mounted inside the fuse? I find it odd that an Rx burried inside a jet fuse would be okay and yet on my planes I seem to need to get the antennas up into the canopy... If I could put the Rx's away from the open canopy I know they would stay a lot cooler. |

This is not related to power systems in any way. Simply take a 4-cell and plug in your Rx and it is repeatable. You don't need to plug in servos or anything. Gently heat it to around 130f while it is linked to the Rx and it will go red after a time. At least all of mine do (5 x 607/617, 2 x 608 and 5 x 6014's) I also have Powerbox Royal and RRS systems on the planes I flew. |

I have been running the 6014 recievers in my carden 260 and my QQ python. I have been running 2 fromeco 5200 with regs directly into the reciever at 6.3 volts and have the reciever sitting up on its side mounted so the bottom is exposed. I have not had any issue and hae been monitoring it every flight. Yesterday I was practicing and did 8 flights almost back to back with a smoke and drink between and it never got even warm to the touch. This plane has 8 9152's and a small throttle servo. I mean it wasnt even over ambient. I also have been monitoring Mark Trents reciever in his 3.3 yak and his Python and nothing, both COMP ARF have greeves pipes. Now it has only been in the low 70's. I have purchased a couple of Fans from FROMECO that they use on the new Sahara regulator and will mount them to the bottom of the reciever were the processor is and use conductive adhesive. This will sure help out until there is a new design or some sort of fix. I know it is not what you all think is the best but fan will run right off open channel in your reciever. I know that this is a pain in everyones butt but I am sure that they "FUTABA" are working at testing and fault isolation to solve this issue. My two cents.... Jason
