Why do you keep misrepresenting what I say? I have NEVER said they should find the issue and the fix in one day. But they could certainly fess up to the fact that there is a problem in one day!

And yes, when we find an issue with the Shuttle Program, we (at least the folks around me) do indeed fess up to it IMMEDIATELY. It is a matter of manned space flight safety. We all take that VERY seriously! Obviously more seriously that Futaba takes this issue.

So what exactly do they do at the Huntsville facility?

I work in Aviation and I have to fully disagree. We are currently testing a new GE engine. Things come up daily and engineers are on the phone in minutes and digging deep. If the condition is not considered terminal to the equipment, we press on with engineering guidance, if the problem is safety that is it, red flag until the issue can be corrected or the risk mitigated through inspection. I think Futaba was oblivious to this issue until now. Do you think this product was rushed to the market to try and offset slipping radio sales, or that through testing was done, honestly?

Damn, I must recant that I am a moron. Spektrum sure seems to be in touch with the RC community more than Futaba. Look at the new Heli receiver from Spektrum, 8v safe, on board switch, built in governor. Heck it might even be out before we have an answer on our FASST stuff.

I think that is a trained respnse from an issue we had a few years ago about some o rings......and fessing up somebody didnt fess up back then now did they?

I think that everyone is forgettin one thing... This is a hobby.. not an aircraft engine that is going to haul 200 people around. I am confident that FUTABA is testing and trying to figure out a solution. I dont think that FUTABA is going to say anything untill they have a solution in place that is sure fire. For the time being everyone is going to have to be reactive and do something with there setup or take a chance. I have choosen to use a small cooling fan on the reciever and keep it out of the direct sunlight.

I have read every post in this thread fro the last week or so. (slow reader) I am sure that a guy at Futaba could figure out there was or was not a problem within 1 hour of reading any one of these posts. And from all the people that have reproduced this on the ground, I believe there must be an issue here. So for the sake of argument, There is some issue with the RX most likely a heat related problem, or heat related restriction. So I am sure that an engineer reproduced it, then had his fellow engineers try it, and they reproduced it. They went and talked to their team lead, and he asked for verification. The team lead took this info to his manager, and the manager asked for more clarification and testing. After this testing they found that the failure is in a part they buy from another company, at the cost of $ 0.50 per RX. So here you have a problem, are all components bad, or just a batch of them. If all, quicker solution all are bad, or if just a batch. How do you tell what is good and what is bad. Yet you have another problem. Any crash on a warm day running this new 2.4 Futaba RX should not be a cost to the end user, but a cost to Futaba, and Futaba does not like buying fire wood. Also any RX already sent out should be recalled, and no one likes to send out free stuff and pay shipping. So even if there is a problem. Futaba corporate is looking for existing documentation or other type of information that would make this a documented limitation on existing RX. So the problem was and end user problem for using it outside the temperature limits of the RX. And if the component was form another company. Does that company have enough funds to help offset the cost of the recall, or the cost that should be paid to a crashed aircraft owner. And I am sure most corporate lawyers would like to make sure any statement is released properly, with minimal damage to the company.
I am sure the Engineer at Futaba just wanted to say. Yep there is a problem, but is not allowed to do so.
Yet this is just a Hobby, so the solution is simple. Put the RX in a place where it will receive good air flow from the prop if at all possible but not the heat of the engine, so it will cool on the ground after starting. Also exit vents should be twice the intake vents for good airflow. And put it in a place where the 2 antenna are located as recommended. Cover your airplane with a towel or something when sitting out in the sun. Fly and have fun.

They already issued a warning. Read the instruction manual:

The receiver contains delicate electronic parts and should be protected from vibration, shock and temperature extremes.

I'm sure there is more of a delay in the legal dept. than in figuring out there may be a problem. Lazun has mentioned sueing them a couple of times in this thread. I can offer up a warning on Futaba's behalf. IF YOUR STUPID ENOUGH TO PUT YOUR RECEIVER IN AN OVEN, IN FRONT OF A HEAT GUN OR UNDER A MAGNIFYING GLASS (canopy) IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT IT MIGHT NOT WORK. USE COMMON SENSE PROTECT THE RECEIVER AND IT'S ENVIRONMENT. Futaba probably is better with words than I am. Here's a question,what's the increase in receiver temperature when operating on 4.8 volts compared to 6.6 volts from A123 batteries. We don't follow their recomendations and then we say they're incompetent when the product fails.

Why bother with ducting? Just mount the RX on the exterior of the plane in a shady spot so that propwash can hit it. Problem solved!
