Interesting day today. I flew my 3W 40% Extra with 2 x 6014rx on a Powerbox Royal. I noticed right away that the Rxs get really hot in the sun if they are not covered. It isn't even hot here (66deg - and believe me it felt wicked hot compared to our winter!) The Rx's were hitting over 90f after being on for 5 mins just doing the range check. When I let them bake in the sun a while they hit 120f. But - these are nowhere near the temps posted here so I flew. No probems on the flight - except my Royal said one Rx went in to failsafe once and the other twice. I'm guessing that is something to do with where they are mounted. I'm sure glad I had the RRS/Royal in there! I didn't even notice the RRS switch over. The ground test was perfect from all sides and I sure thought I did a good job mounting them... My Rx's are shaded by the pilot when the canopy is on. In addition they are mounted on thick foam "floating" the way QQ does his. There is good air flow in the fuse - when I landed the Rx's were 91f. |

the reciever does generate heat. It has a built in regulator that regulates voltage down to supply the signal to servos. From what ever your input voltage down to the correct signal voltage. I cant remember what it is but definatly does. Jason |

Considering that the 6014FS is flown in larger planes, this is certainly a much higher risk to public safety. I think Futaba should make at least some acknowledgement of the issue, and make a recall before any ugly incident occur.

I think maybe Futaba needs to confirm that this is actually an issue, determine a cause, and engineer a solution before they start thinking about recalls. Once they confirm it, then a service advisory would be in order.

I know I have a purple airframe and after landing the other day the plane was very warm inside. No problems. Yes I am using a 7 channel rx but have had no problems so far. I believe I feel more in connected with the plane more with the FASST than the G3 RXs. I just like FASST because it is simple!!!

I like the way these Futaba guys are thinking. Lets make sure there is a problem before we do anything about it. Kinda like lets just launch the shuttle even though there is an O ring failure. It should be okay. Everyone has talked about this all day long. Maybe the least Futaba should do is post a warning on their website that there might be a problem so anyone who is using these 6014 receivers is at least aware of the incidents that have occured. If someone gets hurt because of a faulty receiver that hurts everyone in our hobby. And it is a hobby. Maybe a recall isn't in order but there should be a warning on their website. Or hell, lets just launch and hope the O ring doesn't hit anyone. Im personally switching to a Hobby Lobby with 10 match boxes.

The battery voltage might be playing a role in this also. the electronics inside the receiver run on 3 or 3.3v that is being supplied by an internal voltage reg. the higher the input voltage the more heat that will be generated by the internal regulator. A123 paks would cause more self-heating than li-ion with a 5.9 or 6v reg. most regulators have over load and over temp protection built in and will shut off when they go over temp and/or are overloaded.

I agree with calt, we must look at the entire electrical system in order to determine what the true issue is. I think it would be useful for those that are reporting problems to post their setup in detail. Those that are not experiencing can post theirs also. We may see a pattern from this information. If it turns out that the receivers internal regulators are experiencing thermal shutdown when powered by too much voltage in warm weather, it will become as simple as the Spektrum problem with low voltage reboots. We will learn how to properly set up a plane that uses the FAAST system to avoid problems. That is the real value to the RC community that this forum is capable of contributing. |

True. Why wait for any pesky facts or verification. The Internet Jury has pronounced its verdict so let's grab the torches and head to the Castle yelling "Kill the Monster"!!!
