Default 9100 switch issues

Were the initial problems with just the switch assembly, or is there something else I should watch out for when setting this thing up? are the new wave of rx's from horizon fixed? What is the best alternative switch for this rx, could I safly just run the Smartfly pin switch? Thanks 871

The original run of the 9100 used a switch with all 3 wires in the housing, the red one not being used. It was cut but not terminated properly causing a short in some applications. Removing the red wire from the mix before things are powered up will avoid any problems. Newer 9100 units use a new switch with only 2 wires, no B+ to the switch to short out...

Is there any way to tell if you have one of those recievers without taking it apart?

Its very simple. Horizon issued a fix for this and its very simple. When done you have a 2 wire switch instead of three, and the problem is solved.

Scott were you talking the actual physical switch you plug into the receiver or the wires in the receiver?

I am using a 9100 but am not using a switch at all.
I run an extension to the side of the plane thats plugged into the switch channel.
I use a Bind Plug plugged into that extension to shut the system down while the batteries are connected.

Several of us are doing this with great results.

Nothing wrong with or pertaining to the actual receiver. The problem was with mechanical switch wiring. The switch works by closing a circuit between the negative and signal wires to turn the switch off. That's all the switch does. However, there is still power coming out of the switch port on the receiver, so the red wire on the older switches was hot. Because of the way the red wire was terminated inside the switch, it had the possibility of shorting to the ground wire inside the switch.
The new switches only have two wires going into the receiver (no red wire), so the problem is gone.

Brian,

Like Bodywerks said, it's all in the switch not the receiver it's self. If you have two black wires in your switch harness, you will be okay, that's the upgraded switch from the factory. If you have the standard brown, red and orange wire harness in the switch, you will need to terminate the red wire end better or just remove it from the harness.

Thanks guys for the info. One more thing, what alternative switches could I run because of the failsafe on stuff. Would the smartfly pin switch work? I like the idea of the bind plug......is there a clean way to mount it of the exterior of the fuse? 871
