do they just have the turbine hooked up to some servos or something that rotates and rotate the whole turbine?

How would vector those gasses on such a small scale?

I wasn't able to attend this year, but I'm really interested in this jet. For those that watched it, click on the link to the video below. Did it fly about the same?

Thrust Vectoring- The Turbine is hard mounted, it is the end of the exhaust tube that moves, like a nozzle.
The plane flew a little similar to the video of the Sukoi, but it did endo's within its self, i mean this thing is crazy-D!

The torque rolls were amazing, but if you noticed that sometimes it would torque to the left and sometimes to the right. I think it was just how it entered, not so much the "torque" of the spinning turbine. I may be wrong, but with it going both ways, that is my take at it. Still amazing.

RCDart... I can't believe you asked that question... I am just having fun with you, but that engine spins internally also..

Trey

When he rolled to the right he still had foward air speed, But yes at times during his demo's (Wed.-Thur.- Fri.)
he had zero ( 0 ) airspeed when he torque rolled to the left. At least that is how my video shows it Undeniable turbine torque going on there

in theory yes, but torque is force x distance from centre of rotation. you gotta remember that these turbine blades are tiny! so the torque reaction is nearly nothing, not enough to rotate a model at leastl!

think about it, a 32" prop which weighs, for example, 10N, so the torque reaction going onto the airframe (think newtons III law, for every force there is an equal and opposite reaction) is approx. 10x 0.4064 = 4.064N

Now a theoretical turbine with a fan blade with a radius of 15mm, with a mass of say, 0.01N, the torque reaction of that is only 0.015 x 0.01 = 0.00015N

So i may have got my numbers a bit wrong, but as you can see, a turbine has virtually no torque, even if it had several fan blades, not enough to rotate a plane. in comparison to say, a 40%er with a 32" prop. Obviously a lot more comes into the equation, but you get the idea?

So i ask as well, how does he torque roll!

When somebody posts a video of this plane flying you can throw your torque lesson in the trash. Wait till you see pics of how he travels with this thing. It's almost as amazing as his flying. I didn't take any pics or vid because so many other people were there taking them. I wish someone would post the video. Ralf was a super nice guy to talk with as well.

Thank you Todhog. there are a few disbelievers but we saw it with our very own eyes -And our eyes dont lie!!!
Also I would like to add that a mathmatical equation can be figured for just about anything but it dont make it true. Example- If I were to fart I am sure that the atmospheric pressure of the surrounding area has been altered!!

Thats what I think... Take a brushless motor with no prop on it, and whack full throttle... "tiny'er" than even a jet turbine, yet only spinning 25,000 rpms will wind up the wires and jump all over the place!
