That little pickup truck sure gets some miles on it!

I'd heard that the event was at high altitude & it just threw people off - high wing loading & not enough air

well the plane is an L39 and the place Swartkops air force base South Africa - these L39's normally fly well - this one had a flame out just after take off and the speed was just to slow to bring it back - the problem with jets are that they are expensive - lots of sensitive mechanics and you need experience - but boy once you master it they are a blast - the risk is also much higher than planes as they often catch fire when they crash or its almost always a total loss. I have built, flown and crashed a couple!!

Not suckie pilots. I believe that video is of the World jet masters a few years ago. From what I remember from other threads is that there was some really bad cross winds and downdrafts at one end of the runway.

I also believe it is a week long event or longer . that video captures about 20 or so crashes. Take 100 flights a day x 7 days. not that bad. Probably could make a video just like that from 1 week at joe nall. Especially if Sleepy is there !

Turbines are not harder to fly, but they are much more sensitive and are challenging. Due to turbine lag, the pilot needs to apply the throttle 3 to 4 seconds before he needs it. Plus, one little bubble in the fuel line puts out the flame Add to that the glide ratio on most jets is the same as a rock and it makes for a fun day at the field!

I would like a Turbine someday. Turbo-props look just as cool.

Here is the song info:

Rammstein - "Sonne"

or Sun in English. A really cool video:
