Default OK Jet Jocks, bring it on!!

Hey guys, I really like FG so lets get the Jet forum going. Its off to a good start....so lets get going:

I propose you experienced folks chime in with the following:

1. Aircraft/Turbine/AUW/Retract system/Fuel system

2. Photos of overall and of the systems installation

3. description of the power system and avionics, servos, specialty boxes, battery, and receiver

4. Your lessons learned and what you would change/do better. Specifically the layout or build.

There are alot of cool jets out there and alot of ideas.

I will start it off:

Im a beginning jet jock, what I have purchased, or is in work as we speak

1. Boomerang Elan / Wren SS / enroute....
To Go: Dreamworks retracts / Dreamworks fuel/smoke cell / Intariaco wheels & tires.....in works now.

2. Photos will be posted as we get er together.

3. AR9100 spektrum 4 satellite rx, 8611A servos, HS85 retract/brakes, A123 twin batteries, Custom Wolverine switch Slimline smoke, DCup from Fromeco, Radical RC wiring, Carbon sheet avionics plate. Stock servo arms... If needed, Smartfly servo eqs.

4. Things to do better: Hurry up JR12X radio. Dont know yet, learning all I can now.

OK, you next....

respectfully, goose

Well, I just flew with the Futaba Faast 2.4 system in a Rafale today, first time flying the Faast system in a jet, and I was thoroughly impressed, simple install, and no additional antennas (receivers) necessary.

I don't have any of my own jets that I currently own, but have owned a few in the past. I've been fortunate to fly buddies jets quite often and have flown a wide range of them from the Boomerang Intro to a 114" long F-16 that weighs 50lbs dry.

Things I've learned - don't fly 72mhz, anyone that was at Joe Nall last year will know why I say this. If you weren't there, check out youtube and type in joe nall crash, that's why I'd say no to 72mhz from now on! lol

Fuel systems - key to any turbine jet, always use the correct type of fuel tubing, if you use tygon, be careful, it kinks much easier than the clear style tubing. Remember to mount your fuel filters directly upright, and on the 1st run-up, flick them hard and continuous with your finger to eliminate any potential bubbles that are stuck in there. Check to make sure you've fueled up, silly I know, but even I've done it, taken off and then had to call landing within 1-2 minutes! LOL

Landing gear - check for leaks in the up and down position, and cycle the gear before your 1st flight of the day, I don't care how "fool proof" your landing gear is, cycle it, it will show any signs of damage or leaks by doing so.

Controls - always check for correct directions, don't just wiggle the sticks, I've seen guys loose 7k+ jets by doing this and taking off with the ailerons reversed!

Range checks - perform when you change any equipment or if you go to a new flying site (one you've never flown at before), and for those that want peace of mind, do it every time you go out to fly (once for the day).

That's all I got for now. Here's some shots of the Rafale I tested today.

I agree that was an awesome crash and very unfortunate. I must submit that Terry Nitsch's crash during the half time show at the first XFC was even more spectacular.

Ok fellas - maybe you can help out since you're getting this forum rolling. I'm building a composite super Bandit and it's nearly ready for paint. Any one got any interesting Hi Viz sport schemes please chime in. It's going to have a titan in it - so want something that's really going to stand out in the sky.
Would prefer to paint it myself so nothing too complicated. Attached photo of one possibility.......

Also - Dave S may know this one. Which fin will give best performance?

I was standing next to Quique when your jet went down. I remember he looked up and said.."that's the worst crash I've ever seen!"

Hope you'll be there this year flying something fast! Those slow rolls with that Bandit were the best!

-Brad

Now if I can only get my FASST stuff in time!

Andrew. I like the one you attached, and I also like red white and blue schemes, it fits both USA and UK jets.

I attached my fusion for an idea

Good call - I nearly painted a 2.6 extra in that scheme once. I need to get my painting skills up for that one!

I got my waiver this weekend on a Tamjet F-16. I'm stoked!

Andrew, my buddy has 2 Banditos, one with a P-120SE and the other with a Titan. The Diamond Back scheme is my favorite. Here are two pictures of the planes flying on a overcast day.

I've also got a Bandit ARF in the orange and grey scheme but with an artes falcon in it. Wicked aeroplane - reasonably fast and a good aerobatic model when you get the cg 3/4" back from the slightly girly factory recommended position! Even got a very small token hover out of it at the weekend!

Good job on getting that waiver.

Andrew
