That was a true lightning shot. I was in my backyard just clicking away. We were having the worst lightning storm I had ever seen. I was lucky enough to get two photos. You are right about the plane. I did photo shop that in just to get you guy's going. But the rest of the shot is the real deal. I'm not sure if anything happened to the house that took the hit, but it look bad.

The lightning pic is a total photoshop. The aircraft was chopped and placed in the shot (there are a lot of things that could have been done to improve the effect and make it almost undetectable). The lightening in the pic is real. The way it appears to bleed over the roof is simply caused by the brightness/overexposure of the bolt. The longer the exposer the larger the bright areas of the image will grow,as long as it is a continual source of light, and eventually the whole image will turn to white.

Ion01,
That's correct. I realy didn't want to fool anyone with the plane. But look at the clouds it was a freakish day for sure.

I love to shoot lightning shots... but since I left Oklahoma there is just not much opportunity anymore. Phoenix is very rarely hit with lightning (and rain for that matter).
This was taken while I was TDY at an Air Force Base. The camera was my first digital Nikon Coolpix 5700. I had no tripod, so I braced it on a railing with some success.

For those of you who want to know how I did it... simple.
If you have a speed setting on your camera it is likely you can do this. I set the shutter to a 'bulb' setting (slowest speed you can possibly get), which will keep the shutter open as long as I keep the button pushed down. I would set the camera, push the button, count to 10 or so and if nothing happened, I deleted the shot and took another. If lightning hit, I released the shutter and kept the shot.
Extremely easy to do and the look is awesome.

No there was no damage at all. I ended up moving the gear forward to prevent the nose overs. Notice the up elevator and she still nosed over.
