Spoke to Max today and we came up with a good plan for mail in donations. All we will do is, when we decide on a charity is have those members who want to donate, send me a check MADE OUT TO THE CHARITY. I'll keep a spreadsheet of who sent in what and have it available to anyone who asks. I also may post the names (not amounts) as they come in. When the Shootout money is added, I'll send all the checks in at once, registered mail, with a list of donors and letter on behalf of the FG members. I'll check on getting P.O. Box to receive checks.

I am so sorry that I just now ran into this thread...I'll be sending a donation, but I don't think I'll make the TAS as originally planned, funds just aren't available.

Let us know about the PayPal donation system, even with the 3% loss, it's better than missing the donations all together.

I think for simplicity, I'll skip the whole Paypal thing. One could send an eCheck from their Paypal account I believe. Money orders and bank checks would work too. As long as they have your name on them.

Paypal would be convenient, but we're talking about having to set up a bank account to receive funds and that means $$$ as well. This way ALL of it goes to the charity.

I called the UPS Store near my house and I can get a P.O. Box for $15.00 a month. I can afford that. Plus it gives me a "secret" place to receive those strange hobby company packages that raise the wife's eyebrow (just kiddin').

Thoughts? Suggestions? I'm open to them.

Personally, I don't have a problem with sending a check, but paypal would help take out the "what if he runs with the money" thoughts......

No 50, I completely understand. That's why we thought having the checks made out to the charity and not me would hopefully remove some of those fears. Plus, I would have a running spreadsheet available anytime for anyones viewing. At the end, the total would be added up and sent in the letter to the charity.

I will keep checking the Paypal angle, but I have a feeling they will want me to set up a bank account. Maybe that's not too expensive. I'll call now.

I understand that, and I have no doubt that it will go where it needs to go. I was pointing out an angle that always comes up when it comes to personal checks.

OK, Paypal may be on again. I spoke with Wells Fargo here in Albuquerque and as it turns out I can open a free checking account that is non-interest bearing, but it has to be in my name. The trust factor would have to come in by me posting the transaction history of the Paypal account from time to time, Then... I can setup a Paypal account that will transfer into this account when we are finished with the donations, but the 3% will still be charged. After all is said and done, I get one big bank check and donate it to the charity.

We can also have the option of folks sending checks in the charity's name directly to me, then I'll combine it all and send it (the one big bank check and all the personal checks in a registered envelope, with list and letter).

Anything I might be missing? Any legal or trust issues I'm not addressing? Please let me know.

Dave

Your bank should be able to give you all the advice you need which it seems they have. Great job Super Dave. I'm glad we could push this thing forward. I would love to make this an annual event and I would be more than happy to help run an annual FG fundraiser.
