When I put the plane together, I was going to replace the stock tail wheel with an Ohio Superstar Haigh one that I had laying around. It was lighter than the stock one though, so I didn't use it. I need to put some lead back there to find out exactly how much I do need, but UGH, I hate to do that. LOL Anyone know of an easy way of putting lead in the tail other that glueing some lead strips back there?

I got the Spektrum module for my Futaba 8UAFS about a month ago and it's been bullet proof. I wanted to try out the A123's as well, so I slowly worked them into my planes. Also been reading about doing away with ignition batteries while using the 2.4 Ghz system. A buddy of mine did if first and had zero problems with it. I've been using a 1500 Elite for ignition on the DA100, and a Sanyo FAUP 1950 for the receiver for two years on several planes. With all the output of the A123's I thought I would give it a shot. I got the battery from Radical RC. It's wired with three output leads with 20 gauge wire. Two go to two switches, then to the AR7000 receiver. The other lead goes to the ignition switch. I'm using 450-500 mAh/flight. The A123 is loafing with this kind of amp load. I charge with an FMA Cellpro 4s charge. After 3 flights it takes 22 minutes to charge/balance, or I can charge sooner with an even shorter charge time.

Thats cool, what works, works. Not enough redundancy on this size of model for my personal preference, but Im all for the K.I.S.S. system. Rawk on! JV PS, sweet plane eh?

This Edge will spoil you real quick, especially at the weight mine is coming in at. 25 lb. 5 oz. with over 2100 sq. in wing with a DA100. Yee Haw!

Stock pants cracked after 10 flights. I have to agree, it looks soooo much better with them on. The landing gear is just a bit thin, and mine tends to shake pretty good just sitting on the ground at idle. When I taxied, the tails of them would vibrate into a blur.

Gotcha. Now you can fix them and put some CF strips inside to strengthen them without the weight penalty.

I'll have to give that a try. The tails of the pants didn't crack though, it was on both sides of the wood block where they're bolted to the landing gear. The FG tore starting at the bottom, and worked it's way up. I took them off pretty quick, so there is still something there to repair. I've got some B&B wheel pant brackets, but what a PITA to put on.

I personally have not lost wheel pants from vibration since adding a small wood block to support the exterior part of the wheel pants. I made a drawing of what I use, and while it add a insignificant few grams of weight, this should solve all vibration issues on wheel pants. Hope this helps. I am not sure if the file will upload properly, but here it is. Last edited by islandflyer2; 08-18-2008 at 01:12 AM. Reason: Failure to upload attachment

The 43% next production will also have the built up wings that Ken and I have been using for the past several months. We have made some improvements to the original 43% built up wings by re-enforcing several areas and components of the wing. There were only a few foam wings shipped following a wing failure on one of the original demo sets. The foam wings were the quickest solution we had in order to help our customers who already had the plane, but the the new built up wings are lighter than the foam version.

Herve, You are absolutley correct about the harmonics at certain rpms... There is one spot just off idle that my pants really shook. Your wood block on the exterior part of the wheel pant would do the trick. That's what the B&B wheel pant bracket does. It connects the outer end of the axle to the wheel pant. I just thought I would try to bolt these pants on without them to see how it went. I have seen other pants attached without the outer support that held up fine. They must be made of a heavier fiberglass cloth to eliminate the flexing.
