While I was at it, I added a 2300 mAh A123 for the ignition, and mounted it right infront of the other pack. I figured this would help out with the CG since I was nose heavy anyways, and putting the pants back on added 6 oz. The battery/ply mount was right at 6 oz. as well, so my plane weight went from 25 lb. 5 oz. to 26 lb. 1 oz. I've got right around 100 flights on the Edge, so I was starting to feel real comfortable with it. Just starting to throw it around if you know what I mean. I was real curious to see how the added weight made it fly. Well it wasn't good. Here's what happened:I used to be able to go vertical at 1/2 throttle, punch it, and watch it accelerate up. Now it was ho-hum not much at all. Instead of flying IMAC mostly at 1/2 throttle, I was 3/4 to full most of the time. When chopping the power to do a wall, the extra drag of the wheel pants made the nose of the plane really dive down. And when doing the wall, the nose just kind of mushed up instead of popping up. When doing slow rolling maneuvers, or anytime the airframe was going slow, the ailerons were much less effective. Driving it around in a harrier was more difficult as well. My down lines were much slower, which can be a good thing, and I couldn't believe how much less rudder it took to hold knive edge flight. The pants really get a lot of lift. My CG was a bit better, but still not where I wanted it to be. So off came the pants and I left the battery where it was. Now my CG is where it needs to be, the plane is flying better than it was for the first 100 flights. All in all, the plane is just quicker on the sticks without that extra weight and drag of the wheel pants. So being someone that prefers performance over looks, this one will have to stay naked.

I have the 36% with Da 100 and regular muffs and my maiden flight weight was 25lbs 12oz. I have since then had to fix the landing gear due to a pothole at another field. So I think ive added another couple of oz since then. Even if this plane was to weigh in at 27lbs with the wing loading its has, it would be a floater. Btw, i love this plane, it rocks for all out 3d ![]() Mike | ||||||||||||||||||

Anyone here using the PAU propellers for a 100 on stock mufflers for the 36% Edge? If so, which prop and what type of flying style (3D, IMAC, or just flying around)? How do they compare to other props you have used on this plane?

Whipper, Glad to hear mine wasn't the only one to come in at that weight. This plane just floats at that weight doesn't it? I think I'm up to around 150 flights on mine now, and I've pretty well got it fine tuned the way I like them. Good luck and enjoy!

I fly my 36% Edge with a PAU 28-3Db prop. This prop is fine for all around flying, including 3D. Mine is the prototype, which is a little heavier than most. In addition, I installed a smoke system. In spite of all this added weight, the plane flies great. I have also flown my 36% Edge with our 27-3Db prop: it pull enough, but requires higher RPMs to pull out of Hover. |

My question has to do with baffling. I have read most of the posts but do not recall anything about baffling to provide the right amount of cooling air to the engine. I currently fly an Aero Works Extra 260 and baffling is required and provided with the ARF. So. Does the cowl architecture on the PAU 36% Edge 540 require baffling? By the way I am using a DA-100 with compact J-Tec mufflers. Has real time experience indicated that it is required or recommended? This plane is certainly on my short list but I wanted to clear up this issue before making the decision. Thanks. Shawn |
