If it looks to you that it is needed then do it. If not, then run it and see if it shows signs of possible needing the extra cooling. If flying 3D style, then it may be needed more than if flying IMAC style. I have one on order, so I can not say for sure that it does or does not need it.

It’s always a good idea to baffle your engines. Not just to protect them from heat and increasing the lifespan of the motor, but also a cooler engine makes more power. Based on your climate, I would do it for sure. Now it does not need to be a very complex baffling system. The idea is to get the air flowing above and below the cylinders. There is a large exit at the bottom of the cowl that will exit air efficiently. What you want to do is make sure that your getting an equal about of air going over the top of the cylinders as the air will typically flow just over the bottom, as it’s the easiest way out. What I’ve done is just used a piece of thin depron CA’d at the bottom for the inlets to keep air going over the top and bottom of the cylinders. The weight added is minuscule. If you go through the thread, flyingrazorback did a very nice baffle for his. If you lived up here in the NW I would not be too concerned with it but it’s still a good idea. I ran mine in Vegas a 110 degree heat and had no issues with the depron baffle. Keep in mind, you will need to fuel proof it once installed. Ken

Will KS 60 cannisters fit in this plane? What header drop is needed?

Harv, The header drop is 90mm. We have had good luck with the MTW TDH75 Canister Mufflers on the DA-100 (Front in, rear out). I am attaching a pdf showing the dimensions so you can check for any other combination. Last edited by islandflyer2; 10-15-2008 at 04:50 AM. |

Thanks for the info on baffling the engine. I was pretty sure it would be a good idea down here in the Texas heat. I do have another question though. Has anyone found a realistic 3-Dimensional Instrument Panel made for this airpane or one that with minor modification works for this plane. I did a searched for "instrument panel" and "dash panel" on this thread but got no matches. I fly IMAC and need a panel in the plane and I don't want a stick-on paper panel. Shawn |
