This plane is very tempting to me, I have been wanting to go to the 100cc class for over a year without spending an arm and a leg on an airframe, I flew an Ultimate (Goldberg 60 size) years ago for my second plane after I learned to fly, I loved it and have always really liked the Ultimate, it just looks like a hot rod on the flight line. |

I just finished up the final install of the carbon fiber cannisters. Forgive my TIG welding, it was my first time. Next time I will "tack" it with the tig and then "silver" solder them together. It looks much nicer that way. From talking to others, I know the header length is too long. My reason to the long length is that I can cut a little off till I find some sort of "resonance" to when the combo starts to sing. Then I can find out if this thing will hold up. Just from observing what I saw from "cooking" them it should'nt be an issue. I baked them at 200 degrees for an hour and was able to remove them from the oven with my bare hands. They were very warm, but not scalding hot. The next test will be tomorrow when I fire it up for the first time and see how the cans react. BTW, I gained less than 10oz with the final install (w/clamps, coupler and mount). I will finalize that tomorrow. BF |

Did I miss where you got the CF cannisters from and the cost of them?

One more thing, the RPM's I quoted before were wrong......It should have been 6139 instead of 6319. Any one else have info on a stock muff equipped BME 110 with a MEJZLIK 28-10. Before AND after a 10 min flight? I'm about 200' ASL. Thanks, Jamie |

Did you cut the header off to the length you needed, or do they go inside the inlet of the cans? Not too bad of a job on the tig welding for your first time. It is looking very good, can't wait to hear how the stand up, sound and perform. A video with sound of the engine running on the ground and then flying in the air would be great in the near future, maybe even a Db reading.

The header is the same dia. as the inlet on the can. I just used some "L" header pieces from KS to make the header. Making the header was much easier than I thought. I will be making my own from now on. It will need to be shortened to get it in tune. As far as the performance goes, It spun up to 6410 the first time I went to full throttle. This is almost a hundred RPM more than it did before, keep in mind the long header length. I'm hoping for a true honest 6900-7000 on a Mejz 28-10. The sound was like a DA50 on an MTW75k. Almost too quiet. The cylinder temps got up to the 260 degree range and the can (which is about a half an inch from the fuel tank) was only warm to the touch. It lasted for almost 10 min. on the ground before one of the end pieces blew off. No big deal, my brother and I pretty much expected it to happen. I have a solution for it, an alumnium ring riveted to the end of the can holding the back plate on. I'm off to the hardware store to find some thin alumniun. I'll report back when I get it to stay together and get a flight or two on it. BF | ||||||||||||||||||

Excellent to hear of the 1st run so far and how things went. I am sure you will get the little bugs worker out.
