| Gettin' Lower! ![]() | O.K. I guess this is what I get for trying to keep the letter down to one page this year! LOL For the record... There were 3 criteria for this years plans. First was the issue of "low passers" flying in the pattern with 3Der's down on the deck. We have been more and more concerned over the last few years with the safety of this practice. And, as I said in the letter, safety is job 1 at Triple Tree. As you know, it has always been our policy for 3D flying to be "over the trees", but this has not been enforced well enough in the past. This year, all 3D flying at the present flight line will be STRICTLY enforced! In other words, you are welcome to fly 3D at both flight lines, but if you want the freedom to hug the deck, you will need to plan on flying at the new flight line. This, obviously doesn't apply to the noon-time demo's. The second objective is to hopefully allow more pilots more chances to fly. 'nuff said. Third, there are at least as many RC flyers that do not fly 3D as those that do. The Joe Nall, among other things, is about including all facets of RC model aviation. Further, it was well said, that IF these changes don't work for some reason, we will adapt in the future. To recap: * 3D flying allowed at both flight lines, with restrictions at the primary flight line. * New flight line will be 2.4ghz ONLY. * 2.4ghz allowed at both flight lines (and the lake along with channels 22, 23 and 24). * "Full blown" 3D hucking at the new flight line ONLY! By the way, all of our flight lines will be controlled by Confederate Air Farce personnel. We hope everyone is as excited about this year's event as we are to bring it to you! I'll certainly be monitoring for any further questions. |

| Bad-ass Super Contributer! ![]() | Another option is to have designated times for the various genre of models.... Warbird time, 3D time, Foamy Time, Turbine Time, Miller Time... well... you know what I mean... times that are exclusive to a particular type of model.... |

Seriously though, I hate quiet warbirds. There's nothing like a Harley that sounds like a Honda........ | ||||||||||||||||||

| Uncle Jemima To the Rescue! ![]() ![]() | Thanks for the info. I think it sounds like a great idea. I think most of the issues have been the combination of runway passes in combination with hovering. Ill be flying 72mhz, but have always respected the Triple Tree rules of 3D, and hovering just about bores me to tears, so I should be good to go on the main flight line! I think this is a very proactive approach and will help everyone out in the end. Plus, that opens up a huge new section of the facility that hasnt been used in the past.

| It will fly!!! | In reading through the posts and the letter, I have been thing about this situation. All in all I think that it is a win-win situation. First, it will give more people the chance to fly. Second, it will give more ability to fly the style of flying you enjoy. If the second flight is where I believe it is it will be much better for 3D style flying. It is a more open area without the trees just the other side of the runway. I can see both sides of the argument of it being a 2.4 only flight line. For those that aren't flying 2.4 it will limit the style of flying for them. However it is no different than the limited number of 72MHz channels for the float fliers. With the amount of money we spend on the larger planes, the cost of a new radio or new modules for an existing radio is minimal. Trying to coordinate frequency control on two separated flight lines would be a nightmare. As for the comment about the spectators, there are probably more there that enjoy the scale type of flying than do the 3D. The Joe Nall is a "scale" fly-in. It was this before the 3D segment of the hobby grew to what it is today. Those that want to watch the 3D will find their way to the second flight line and probably spend most of their time there. For those that want to fly both lines, moving the planes from one line to the other will be the worst part. But that is all part of it. I think that it is great that Pat and the CAF have come up with this idea and want to thank them for their time and effort. The facility is one of, if not the best, in the world. Remember we are the guests there. They are going above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome and have the chance to fly more at this great event.
