Default Joe Nall Project Plane - Help Us build It

At the Nall we are going to have a project plane for everyone that would like to participate to build on. In true Joe Nall fashion it will be big.
Carl Goldberg 1937 Valkyre scaled up 200% to 20 feet. The goal is to build this plane in 15 days at the Joe Nall. That means it will be three year Joe Nall project. The First Nall for 5 days we will work on the wing with a 40 inch cord. This is going to be quite a challenge. There are 58 ribs to be stick built from scratch. I am working on the supplies and logistics for this project now. The wing has approximately 1,600 pieces. Looks like it will take 1,516 linear feet of material, who knows how much glue, a lot of sandpaper, and many hours at the building table. So you can see it will take a huge community effort to build just a wing in 5 days.
We know their will be veteran builders, novice builders, and I hope a lot of kids. Please take the time to work with these kids and help them be a part of this project. Kids are the future of our hobby.
I hope everyone can find time to enjoy this project. The 24 foot building table will be set up in the Pat's hanger. Remember to sign the nose of the ribs you build and leave your name on this unique plane. I welcome your comments.

You sure you want my grease and grunge stained fingers touching all that pristine virgin balsa?? Maybe I'll come by and lend some moral support, run for drinks. . resharpen the knife blades for you. . .

This ought to be a great project.

It is great to hear the intrest in this project. All the wood for this project has ben aquired, Balsa for the ribs, leading and trailing edges, and sheeting for center of wing. My dad and I cut 50 1/4x1/4x10' spruce stringers for the multiple spars. We still have a few things to get together, sanding blocks, razor blades, and glue. The plans should be printed next week, 200 square feet of paper to go thru the plotter. I hope everyone can find something to intrest them in this project even if its just standing around telling building stories about the one that got away.

Sign me up also. I don't know what I would do if I didn't have something to build why I'm gone. Rob
