I have a Dx7 spektrum radio, i want to put the igniton cutoff but its possible activated in the Flap Mix 2 switch ?? (flap mix 2 position 2) or only is going be activated in Gear Switch or Aux2 ??
THe best way I have found on hte DX7 is to use a separate channel for kill, whether its choke or optical. on the gear switch.....then program the mix switch when on mix 100% gear and when off, then the gear switch works. this way it takes two switch actions to kill it.

I started my CAP 232 for it's first flight, all was working well then the exhaust fell off [DUH], this meant the engine revs were increased and my flight instructor landed her after killing the engine with a SMART FLY optic kill I had fitted.

In addition my servo throttle failed 1/3 open when started on the ground and the kill switch was a very simple and safe solution to this issue.

Lesson learnt, NEVER fly a gasser without a kill switch as it's just dangerous.....

Ok, newbie question. What's wrong with using a servo on the choke? Serves the same purpose as the kill switch doesn't it?

There's a couple of differences between using a servo on the choke and the optical kill switch. You can set the kill switch so that in the event of radio signal loss, it will kill the engine. Its also solid state, no moving parts to fail such as servo gears and pushrods. Also, cutting the ignition kills the engine instantly - closing the carb can take a few seconds for it to sputter out.

Its personal preference, and I'm sure you will read arguments from both sides of the fence

Most importantly, if the engine comes loose it will change your throttle and choke throws, possibly to the point that neither will have enough throw to kill the engine. Also, if the battery for the rx should die or you otherwise lose power to the receiver, the ignition will cut off, preventing a possible catastrophic crash situation. Should the same happen with only a choke servo, you're S.O.L...
Oh, and the smart-fly unit is lighter.
