Default 5 5955s and 1 5645, how much battery do I need?

I am putting together a Aero-works Extra 260, 50cc and have decided to put 5 5955's in it for control surfaces and 5645 for throttle. I know this is overkill but I got a great deal on them so what the heck. I have a couple of power options and want an opinion or two on what I need to be safe but not excessive. In the past I have used one Fromeco 2600 for the reciever and one for the engine in my DP Edge. I has worked well and I can get 5 or more flights without getting close to the 7 volt no fly voltage. It seems most guys are using a lot more battery, power systems etc than I have so I want to make sure I am not out to lunch on this one. I have a 4800 Fromeco sitting around that I can use also but I dont know if it is needed.

I assume power systems are overkill for this plane correct?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Although the single 2600 LiIon probably provides enough power for the system, it does not provide nay redundancy for the RX power system. This is even a bigger issue if running one of the 2.4 MHz systems. On the RX, I would rather see two 2600s through two switches and two regs. Just for safety.

Power systems may be overkill for a plane this size. However, since you are using servos designed for a bigger plane you might benifit. Smart-Fly has an all in one package that is designed for your application, here is a link: http://www.smart-fly.com/Products/Po...ersystems.html

Nice to have, but a little pricey, and maybe overkill as you say.

1 2300mah A123, 2 switches. $99. You're done. Plenty of power for 8 flights, simple as a round steel ball.

The man asked our opinion. That's my opinion.

dual fromeco 2600's, dual badger switches, and regs,

This is the setup am running in my 31% edge, but I have a smart fly power expander in the mix and a D-cup. I have 5955 all the way around , and a 5245 on the throttle

Well said Tom.

2600 mah is plenty of capacity. The problem with running one 2600 lion is the ability of the pack to hold voltage under a load.

Here is what I would use.

First- One 2300 A123 w/ fail-safe or redundant switches

Second- Smart-Fly Regs Two Thunder Power 1320mah 2s LiPo

Third- Smart-Fly Regs Two fromeco 2600 LiIo

I am going to use a R921 JR receiver. So would I run both batteries to the receiver after the regulators? I would go 123 but if it weren't for the charger.

One batt, 2 switches? What am I missing here? Honest...how do you wire that? I know the Lion's are double packs but A123?

my opinion:
1 or 2 batts.
2 switches....
no regs needed.
BUT.... it depends on what you already own. If you have high quality stuff, use it, that's the cheapest route. If you have some good switches, good nickles, or whatever, then use it...

two good nickle packs can power it just fine
ONe A123 can power it.
One high quality LIon can also power it with a good regulator like fromeco. but having two for safety is good.

simple,

On my 50cc airplane with 4 JR 8611's, 1 HS-5955 and 1 HS-5945 I use a 2000mAmp low impedance battery wired thru 2 switches for the receiver and a 1100mA Nicad for the ignition. Easily get 6-7 10 minute flights with this setup. I use 2 switches and a single battery for receiver since a switch is more likely to fail than a battery.

In my experience a 50cc airplane uses about 150-175 mAmps in a 10 minute flight.

The A123 pack is available with two output leads both with Deans connectors to minimize losses from resistance. Each lead will plug into one of the switches. You use two switches for redundancy and to get two connections into the receiver which again lowers resistance. Connect to two ports of the receiver.

Cost? The charger cost ($75 for a Cellpro) is hardly more than one good regulator, and you only have to buy 1 to support all your planes.

I just got an e-mail from FMA (I'm on their e-mail list) with a discount offer and the Cellpro 4S would only be $65 until 1-19-08...

JoeAirPort,

I feel the best set-ups for our system is one A123 batt and a Smart-Fly Super Switch. The Super Switch has a HD 18ga input, and 2 standard receiver outputs.

I have them both in stock, feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.
