I don't have any degrees - jest a poor but old country boy.
my comment only meant that larger capacity A123 are better matched to the power the 8611's can slurp up
I do have and use 8611A servos but the planes using these cells are equipped with servos, 150 in ounces of torque -or less. and they have plenty of power.
PS some guys are hoodwinked into thinking their 50 cc model need the very high energy servos -
Good for servo sales ------

Well, degreed or not, I want to personally thank you for opening up my eyes to this technology (post on another forum). I have read most threads from you and everydayflyer. I have purchased 20 vpx packs (15 of those for $6 each, the rest from Wallyworld for $11 ea). I am currently charging them on my Triton, but will buy something else soon (looking at the Cellpro 4s).

Thanks Again...

Oh, please don't take what I said wrong... I am trying to learn about these batteries as well. Sometimes sentence fragments can confuse me. I have followed alot of what Mr. Hanson has said for a long time.

My experience is the limiting factor with this setup is not the wire guage, but the connector pins.
Gold plated is barely adequate (heats up) at 4A. Current limit specs for these pins are usually 1-2A.
I would not consider tin plated pins anywhere in this type of wiring.

Dean's micro is specified at up to 10A continuous, so this would be a good substitute.
Haven't tried anything above 4A - I could see 22ga wiring becoming an issue at 10A.

I am charging through JR connectors right now, but am on the lookout for a better solution.
(I do not have easy access to the inside of the fuse while charging - Batteries are buried pretty deep anyway)

What I need is a commodity (DigiKey/Newark) 3-pin connector I can mount through a fuselage side.
Can someone point me to a suitable assembly that looks tidy and won't break the bank?

Well I hope you're paying attention to the voltage output on the Triton as they DO NOT have an A123 setting....

I've seen guys post that they've used the Triton and just watch the voltage, then shut it off as it gets to the 7.2 volt area where the A123's are fully charged. If you let the Triton go to the Li-Ion/Li-Po setting, it's too high for the A123's and you may find out what happens when one goes bad....

Definitely, I keep an eye on Triton while charging and stop it at 3.85. General consensus is that optimal charge is 3.85v/cell. I am testing one of my packs in a beater plane, so far everything seems o.k. at 3.85v/cell.

I recently aquired a plane with dual a123 reciever packs. I removed them to check the wiring and balance and found one of the packs had a problem. One cell was up aroung 3.75 while one was around 3.3. I found that no matter what I do I cannot get the cell to go above 3.3v. Is there a way to recondition the cell to get both back to 3.6?

yes - very likely , all you need to do is discharge the pack down to 3.00 volts on one (or both)cells
then recharge.

I will give it a try. Are most folks using a123 for both reciever and ignition?
