3+ years and no problems!

[quote=billd3;930987]Haven't had a switch failure in 25 years (that I can remember)...Guess I'm overdue.

Be careful when you say that. I said that about one of my helis 3 weeks ago. It had never crashed in two years of crazy flight. Got asked about that, my reply was "its gotta be due anytime now." Same day, the heli was punching out inverted, I started rolling it right cyclic, and BAM!!!, my pitch links snapped off, the rotors came to a sudden halt, and the thing had nowhere to go but down. Landed on the muffler, snapped the landing gear, ripped the muffler off of the cylinder head, and cracked the crank case open. But the blades, servos, RX, regulator, gyro, and battery all survived. I looked back at my buddy Richard who had asked me about the heli never crashing, and I said " You had to ask me about that, did'nt you?!? Thanks a lot!

I autopsied the failed Cermark switch after I replaced it. The photo shows that the lead opposite the charge port had been just about worn in two. I lightly tugged on the lead and it came off in my hand, leaving the little wire stubs shown. The case had a hard plastic edge where the lead exited, with no grommet or potting material. Over time, vibration just sawed it in two. One more thing to check on a new switch.

Fromeco are the best, if you do not want to go that way I would go with the JR HD switches. I have had three MPI switches either fail or fall apart just after about 20 flights or so, needless to say they went into the trash!

I like to "K.I.S.S", Having had a close call recently with a solder failure in a HD switch harness, I'm seriously thinking of replacing the single 2300mAh A123 pack in my 26cc gasserwith two 1100's and just running two of the HD charge jack switches, a lot of redundancy for the bucks

i wouldn't, nothing like a ignition spike into the reciever to make things really interesting.

I no longer use mechanical switches. Solid-state failsafe switches are the only way to go - like those found in Smart-fly power expanders and regulators, or Fromeco switches, etc.

Hey any switch can fail. They all have solder joints....even fail-safe switches.

Bingo
I'll go with the redundancy provided by two good quality switch harnesses in parallel.
