Default Re: Weatronics Dual RX for Dummies

OK that screen shows the unit connected to the RX, when you first connect you need to click down that list on the right upper corner to select the com port that works. On the lower right corner you will get three messages in German. One says no connection, the other says connect but with errors and the last and best says connection OK.

With that little task out of the way the computer will remember the com port for ever and a day so you should not need to do that any more.

The next trick I carried out was to update the software on the receiver. To do that you need to hook up to www.weatronic.com and click on the download link.

Screen shots follow and are pretty self explanatory.

Its a three step process.

OK, Next steps.

In the manual it tells you you dont need a memory card to use the RX but you DO NEED it to update the firmware. There is no otherway that I have found through the USB port for example. Its simple.

You need an SD memory card. Lots of cameras and portable sound devices use them. A 32mb one is worth ten bucks, A 500Mb one is around 25 to 30 bucks if you look around. That big card will record up to 48 hours of flight time. That is it will record your every move, current draw, servo response etc etc. If you have the GPS version it records speed, height, distance from your point of departure.

To my mind if you are going to fork out the coin for this anyway whats another 30 to record your every move. At least your going to know why you took a dirt nap next time. Its all recorded.

OK so you save that little firmware file to the SD card. You might need a card reader depending on your computer. So you load that onto the card, you slide the card into the rx, you then plug in the USB cable or a battery and it fires up the little fellows inside and updates your RX to the latest software.

Then you unplug the USB cable, remove the SD card, delete the file if you dont have another rx to program and then you go to bed because its 12:30 at night and Mums getting crook on me for living on this web site and the computer.

Tommorrow look out for the radio frequency setup and fine tuning .

Sleep tight guys.

Bought this system two weeks ago. Interested to follow Kiwi`s progress as I am currently experiencing major problems with the system after the part where servo configuration was done. The servos get a life of their own and the whole system shuts down on its own and restarts after about 1 sec. Can just think what will happen with a plane 5 feet of the ground!!!

Henk,

Have you upgraded the firmware to the new version. Is the problem with the auto calibration of the ganged servos or is it the entire device.

Today I'm going to go and rat a few servos off some planes that are not flying and try to do a dummy run on the desk top.

These units are well and truly flying in Europe and I seen them in the USA in May flying without a glitch of any sort. When I started with mine it was sort of a bit over whelming looking at the handbook and trying to figure what goes where, but actually working on it step by step I have found it easy enough so far.

I would really like to know if its all your servos going haywire or the ganged ones

Henk,

Ok I found this snippet of information in the Down under thread for the Aussie blokes.

There was an issue with the JR synth transmitter module on 36 Mhz but it has been fixed with the latest firmware upgrade.

What radio setup do you have? The other thing is if you have the SD memory card installed when its doing this you can upload it to your PC and send it to the Weatronic site.

But dont do any of that until you have the latest firmware installed.

Let me know please how it goes.

Hey Alwin,

Welcome aboard mate. Your a site for sore eyes I promise you. Guys it great to see the factory on here giving a helping hand.

Well progress so far today.

Ok I had an old C-ARF ganged rudder tray in the shop that was not used when I fitted the Seiko in the extra. So It was a day of glueing fingers together and setting up the tray. I dug through my treasure boxes and found four FMA S360M servos so I promptly drilled and screwed thos little buggers in place and setup the linkages.

Now if you say all that fast above it sounds like you can do it in a few minutes. Wrong!!!. Its 7pm and I started at midday to do this.

Anyway on with the Weatronics testing we go.

The next step is to call up the screen called Servokonfiguration ( I did not need a dictionary to work that one out) and in that you can assign the channels to what ever servos you want. Once again I was a good boy and read the book before I launched into this aspect. Guys you have to read this step by step to get it right. Theres no shortcuts here.

First you hit the Zurucksetzen button and that will give you a clean slate to start with.

Heres what you should see.
