Hey Guys, Looking for a little info here... I just Purchaced a New Futaba 12ZAP and used to have a 14MZ that i have since sold. When i had my 14MZ i purchaced a SanDisk Ultra II 256MB Compact Flash card and it worked flawlessly. I went with the bigger card only because i was using it for music files mostly. The card of course went with the radio. Well, (i have not recieved my new 12ZAP Yet) But i know it does not come with the Futaba 32MB card that comes with the 14MZ, so i need to buy one. Theres no way i am fessing up $80 for the Futaba card when i know the aftermarket cards do just fine, But i also do not need a large card because the 12 does not have music file capabilitys etc.... I will be using it for extra models/conditions/ and priority being to download the updates. My question is this, Is a Compact Flash card a Compact flash card? I mean is one any better than another? I can grab one on e-bay (32MB for $5-$8) There are the Blue SanDisks, Kodak, etc...... Will any of these do fine? Like i said it would be a no brainer to just get the same Ultra i had, but i just don't need to spend the extra $ on a more expensive card if a lower priced/lower memory will do the same.... The 12Mz will not need all that capacity as i will have no use for it... Thanks for any Help in advance! Dave

Dave, My super expensive SONY pen drive dropped out of my pocket the otherday and the case popped. Guess what I found inside. KINGSTON memory card 1Gb. Now I could have got a Kingston for 50% less. Go figure. Kiwi |

So i guess your point is, a card is a card is a card, accept of course whos name is on the label and of course the size of the card......?

One thing to watch with that type of card. There is a difference in the read/write speed on different cards. I'm not sure if the speed would be an issue in this application. I have only had experience using them in digital cameras. The only time you will see a difference there is when you are trying to shoot photos quickly.

Not positive here but, I doubt you would notice much difference in the card performance in the 12 over any other card. The issue I would think is just one of the card being a "known" source from Futaba. It is not advisable for any manufacture to warrant items that have "other" non named items in it. Just like voiding a warranty on your Chevy for using non oem engine parts or what ever. Otherwise, think your fine with any of them. Will B. |

Guys, Further to my post above I am lead to beleive there are only a limited number of actual factories that produce memory chips. There are far more brands of cards than factories thats a fact. Short of popping open my Futaba card to see who really makes it I cant say much more but without doubt any reputable name card will more than do the trick. Same deal with batteries. I purchased a SONY off AMAZON and its a dead ringer. Lasts the same time, never had a bug and now of course the FROMECO boys have that slip in card to carry the 2800 Mah pack. Lots of very good and reliable alternatives if your looking to save a penny or a pound. Kiwi |
