Did ya know, that you can actually blank out the signal on the DX 6 Spektrum radios?? A friend and I were talking toady about this, and noted that there is a possibility to blank out the signal??? Due to the higher freq. of this unit, and how crappy the signal gets as the freq. goes up. Well, fired up the ole test bed, and put her in the air. DX 6 has a failsafe PRESET to low throttle setting. To ensure that failsafe was set correct, I fired up the plane, and then shut the Tx off. YUP!!! Low throttle. Ok, lets go!!! Flew around for a few minutes, and then tried to blank out the signal. Went verticle and started to roll, and my friend stood in front of my Tx antenna, and sure enough, I let go of the stick, and she kept rolling!!! Did it again, because he wanted to see what happened, and did it again, and same thing! He was speechless!!!! I had a pretty good feeling that it would blank out, since I am a EET(Electrical Engineering Tech), but I just had to go along with him. Even during this test, and knowing that you are trying to make this happen, my heart still jumped up into my throat!!!Love my Spektrum system, and will NOT get rid of it for anything in the world! Note-Don't try this at home, kids!!! Chris~

Something I don't understand is how this frequency works so well for other things. If I'm mistaken please correct me, but I was told that cell phones and other household phones are on the same frequency band. If this is the case, what makes them so different so that we cannot simply stand in front of a cell phone and block its signal? If you can do that with a Spektrum but not with a phone, whats makes that possible? I'm NOT AT ALL saying Spektrum doesn't work well for our applications because I've been flying mine in a dome for 5 days straight and I absolutely love it!

I flew mine with my cell on my hip all day, and not one little iota of troubles. Cells use satellite signals, what freq, I don't know. Some of the newer cordless tele's are on 5.8GHz, alot of cordless tele's are still 2.4GHz. Remember WAY back when you might have gotten your first cordless tele?? 27MHz, right??? Remember how good those things sounded?? 27MHz has a rather large distance from peak to peak waveforms, if viewed from an O-Scope. 2.4GHz is ALOT tighter(lesser distance peak to peak) waveform, also, if viewed from an O-Scope. But to really answer your question, Scott. With 72MHz, you can transmit a signal and contour the earth, or whatever shape there is. The waves bounce alot more than 2.4GHz. 2.4GHz is virtually L.O.S(Line Of Sight) transmission. As long as nothing interferes with the transmission and reception of the signals, everything will be just fine!!! If someone stands in front of you, for a brief second, you'll not notice any fail safe activity with your system. You have no worries about flying inside a dome!! Once you power on the Tx, it sends out a signal to all others on 2.4GHz, to see which channels are being used. Once it recieves(a Tx is a Rx, NEATO!!!) that info, it then tells the Rx to listen to these 2 sole channels!! The Rx transmits back to the Tx and says, OK, I'm ready to go!!! And everything is happy. I apologize in advance, it has been a few years since I have done anything with frequency, so I could be a little off base. But I can dig up a bit of info, if need be..... Chris~ *edited due to tiredness!! Brain not working correctly!!*

Ah that makes perfect sense. Now if I understood that correctly, the reason for so many cell towers would be since 2.4 Ghz is a L.O.S. Transmission, there is less probability that somthing will interfere with the signal greatly enough that none of the towers will pick up the signal. Same reason there are 2 antennas on the Spektrum receiever, less probability for something to interfere with both of them. This would mean that the cell phone signal isn't necessarially better then our Spektrum signal, there's just more ways for the cell signal to be picked up, therefore, simply standing in front of a cell phone antenna will not block the signal like it will with the Spektrum having only 2 ways of picking up the signal.

Yup!! That's for sure!!! What we fly on, normally, is 72MHz. The Spektrum is on 2.4GHz.

Chris, Is it true you can barbeque a chicken with the 2.4Ghz Spektrum if you hold the antennae just right? Seriously, thx for the test and the info. It's really great that all of you intelligent people are around. Otherwise we'd probably just have R/C rocks or R/C Jello or something. Good info.

Dude that sucks. I always thought there was something fishy about that spektrum, better let the buds know not too mess around and walk in front of you in a Tork Roll. -Taylor-

Yep, I've heard about this also. Not only can your body blank out the signal but parts of the aircraft can as well. I believe that is why the Spektrum has two antennas. So for instance if you are flying towards yourself your DA150 can blank out the radio . I'm sure technology will take care of this though. Just a matter of time. My 40% Carden Extra was almost shot down last year when I guy at our field turned on to adjust his ailerons. Not a nice feeling. I can't wait for Spekrum technology for the big planes. .......Mark |
