Default Can a Transmitter fuse blow in flight

Hey guys, I just had a fuse blow on my JR 9303 while I was setting up my edge in the shop. A very scary thought crossed my mind. Has anyone had a transmitter fuse blow during flight?

What is the manufacturers failsafe???????

If there is that much current going through your transmitter at any time OTHER than charging you have problems!

In my 35 years, the only time I have blown a fuse was on the charger. If you didn't have that tx on the charger when the fuse blew, GET IT BACK TO HORIZON! There is NO WAY yo should draw enough current while setting up a model, or flying one!

The above is true. From what I have found on google,JR uses an inline safety fuse for charging purposes. At first thought, if this was the extent of the fuse than the radio should continue to operate. This is not true though . Once the fuse is blown as a result of reverse polarity or too many amps (while charging)than the unit will not operate until the faulty fuse is replaced.

A fuse blowing in flight is not a concern as that is not what the fuse was designed for. It only pertains to charging.

Am I correct?

PS , I had just quick charged my NICD pack at 2C . ( yes I know, it is way too hot)
I was in a rush to centre some servos before dinner. 400mah was put in and the Triton said charging was complete. Took it off and Voila , fuse blown.

Damn I wish I would have taken the back off my transmitter before giving it a few thuds to see if it was a loose connection.
Well I now know there are fuses in them thar JR's

Thanks guys

Highlights.... reading this is like sacrilige to the JR gods. You must be kidding you would never thump a sensitive piece of electronic equipment right Guess you'll have to send it in now to get tuned anyway...lol just fly the foamy a couple times to see it is all good.

Same thing happened to me when I had a JR about 12 years ago. Quit working and freaked me out as I was a young kid paying for everything myself!

A buddy of mine actually got a Futaba 7UAPS at about the same time (12 yrs ago) for free as a guy thought it was broken and it was only fuse as well!

That is a very scary thing to happen! So much for peace of mind while flying.

I like this post. A buddy of mine just sold all his JR stuff because he kept blowing fuses.
Now I can laugh at him and tell him it was due to his charging methods. He was so worried it would fail in flight, but what you guys say makes perfect sense! Charging!

I am glad everyone agreed so rapidly as to what was going on...

Thing is... lets just say the fuse did go in flight. As highlights said, the radio doesn;t work when the fuse is blown.

If the fuse failed for some reason due to being defective while a plane was in flight it would be lost. Why bother with a fuse then?
