Default Personal hitec 5955 test!!!

Today I wanted to see with my own eyes how much torque these servos have so I dicided to set up my own test. I used one brand new 5955 and clamped it to my work bench. I used the stock 1.25" arm that comes with the servo. I decided to grab a pack out of my other plane, a 1950 faup from nobs batteries. As you can see through the tests it was giving 6.40 volts all throughout. First I decided to test the holding torque of the servo which is what hitec claims to be 333oz. As you can see in the photos the max holding torque with the case at 130 degrees was 320 oz!!! Excactly 20 pounds. In this test I took the weight of and set it back on the servo 5 times with case at its maximum temp and it didnt budge. Next I wanted to see what the maximum moving torque was. I grabbed a bucket that weighed half a pound and put an eight pound weight in it to start. Even with the case at 121 degrees it played with the weight, so that was only 136 oz so I moved up with a 3 pound weight added. With the case heated up I to regret to report that the maximum torque I could get was 184 ounces. The servos do kind of dissapoint me but I think I will stick with them because they have so many more features than the 8711. I could not believe that the holding toque and moving torque were so far apart. I kind of wish a hitec rep would come out and explain to us. Or release a new servo that has higher torque. I guess that 184 oz of torque all heated up is pretty good but I would like more

I will keep the 5955's though. And will continue to buy them simply because they are more convinient and are more precise in my opinion

That is 184 oz torgue at 1.25" so the inch oz torgue is 220.8 at what ever temp it was up to.

Do the same test with an 8611 and a 8711 and let us know what it comes to.

I did another test. This time I used a 1" arm. I decided to do the test a little different this time. The last test I plugged in the servo and let the weight down on it and saw if it could move the weight up and down with the weight all the time. This time I decided to imitate a knife edge flight. I would set the weight on and move the servo all the way to its e point and hold it there for maybe 20 seconds. Then when I let the servo down I would take the weight off since it doesnt experience a load at neatral point. Then I would invision turning around and coming in for another pass and then repeating this. This time I also wanted to see what the servo could do cold. So as soon as I plugged it in it maxed the torque pull up from center at 16 pounds plus the .5 pound bucket. I brought it up and did a knife edge pass with it then set it back down and it could not do it again. So at the very begining of the test they exerted 264oz of torque after that the weight it could rep in multiple knife edge pases was 14 +.5 pounds at 232oz of torque. If I did the knife edges back to back with no rest it could not do this much weight.

The further the servo arm moves off centre using a straight arm less force is transmitted. It is effectively increasing the mechanical leverage oft he servo.

Experimenting is good.

I did another test and took some videos with my cruddy digital camera. The first video is the servo doing 16.5 pounds or 264oz cold as you can see the wire breaks before I can get another rep. The second video starts out with 14 pounds or 224oz then I add another 1 in the middle because the servo seemed to be strong enough to do it which is 240oz. Then the rest of the time it is doing 14 after I take the weight out. I was doing the knife edge pass thing.
