330 oz servos question

Gents,

Before I start this thread I need to point out that I am not interested in OTHER SERVOS. Just the three I have listed here and to see if anyone uses them or has first hand experiences with them. I have the others, I use them, I dont need to now about them. Please keep this on with in the subject desired.

OK Hitec have the 5955 servo we all know. You either like them or hate them.

Then there is the Tower Hobbies servo, seems to have exact same specs. Gears etc.

Then we have the Hobbico Servo, again exact same specs, gears etc.

So the million dollar question is are these all the same servo or is there a difference. Has anyone used these servos at all to confirm they are same blood line.

Quiet simply, can anyone shed any light on what if any differences there are between these three.

This topic has been thrashed in earlier posts. I think the conclusion was that the "Tower" digital servo's were not programable. A tip off on the Tower specs is "suitable for trucks & cars". Centering / resolution may not be too good.

And that is the info I wanted. I dont use the programability of the 5955 anyway so thats one less extra out of the way.

What about the centering etc. Does anyone have any comments, real life experience with them. The only reason I ask is if the programmability has been removed then it is fair to assume the card is different in the servo.

Ain't John Glezellis flying the Hobbico's in his new Extra? I'd be nice of him to pop in here and give us some first hand data.

You can get HS-5955's all day everyday at Don's Hobbies for $89 and if you order more than $100 shipping is free. For me, I will stick with Hitec. The programmability of these servos comes in handy at times, espesially when setting up 2 servos on a aileron.

Hi Guys,

I have used the Hobbico servos in my Great Planes 38% Extra 330S. For its value, it is a great choice for the average giant-scale pilot.

However, I still prefer the 9156 servo (or similar 8711) for all applications. In all honesty, whether it is a Futaba, JR, Hitec, or Hobbico servo, you will be satisfied. As long as the torque and speed meets your requirements, you can't go wrong. This servo does its job...I've tested my Extra 330 in some very violent maneuvers and both the airplane and the servo gears have held up.

There is a greater price jump as you are then comparing a +/- $89.00 servo (for the Hobbico or Hitec Servo) with a servo that is + $100 (the Futaba 9156 and JR 8711 Servo)... and the extra cash can go towards paying off Valentine's day debts
