Well, A couple folks got into this debate on which radio systems are more prevalent. However, none of us travel the world extensively, and I would like your feedback on this poll to try to get a rough idea of where the membership of this website spends their money. My story is simple. I flew Futaba for 10 years and now fly a Spektrum 9303. If you want to post, as I did what system you use, go ahead, but please refrain from brand bashing. If you want to do that, go to RCU. Moderators, please kill or edit any post that starts flame wars, including mine if I fail to follow my own rules. ![]() Thnks, 50%plane p.s. I'm using mainly JR, Spektrum, Futaba and FASST as choices because they are the most used and I have limited poll choices. Last edited by 50%plane; 09-23-2008 at 01:55 AM. |

I switched from a 14M 72Mhz to a 9303 2.4Ghz to a 12X 2.4Ghz. I have not looked back.

I have been usind a JR 9303 since they first came out and have up graded the module to a Spektrum . Still on the fence with the JR12X , I will have to see one for my self and ask the user what they think . I love the Futaba 12MZ but there is NO SERVICE or back up in Australia . You buy one here and your on your own , it makes it a bit hard to give them your money . Stu

I fly 72 and 2.4GHz -- depending on the model. As a result of reviewing the stuff, I have several 2.4GHz radio systems/modules at the moment and they all seem to work fine for their intended application (although it should be noted that *some* are not suited to anything other than small/medium-sized sport-type models). I also have several 72MHz sets that also never give me any problems. We're fortunate here in New Zealand that we have more narrowband frequencies available than probably any other country in the Western world (27, 29, 35, 36, 40, 72MHz) so it's pretty easy to find a spot that nobody else is using and stick to it. That means we don't usually have the same frequency contention issues that might exist in other countries where there are only a few spots to choose from. I've yet to see any real benefits from 2.4GHz in my current flying environment -- except that it's now cheaper to fit my 3D profiles with 2.4GHz receivers than it is to fit them with 72MHz FM ones, so that's what I'm using there. My 50cc Extra 330L has JR PCM gear (on 72MHz) and my pulsejet-powered Long-EZ has Hitec QPCM (on 72MHz) - because that's what I had laying around.

We fly a couple of 10X's here at the fabulous WangoTango Mansion.............I like how 2.4 has de-valued the 10X systems but the QUALITY and RELIABILITY has remained. Thank you 2.4! Oh yeah.......... I especially love my shiny, long antenna. With a little old-fashion red "72 mhz " flag on the end of my shiny long antenna, I have my very own personal WINDSOCK! What will those manufacturers think of next? LOL! WT ![]() PS: Just to be fair....... My son Kyle has an early, range-limited six channel Spectrum park flyer radio with a couple of those plastic encased receivers. They are in planes with wingspans of 10 and 17 inches. They are fast and aerobatic and I can't see them for squat but he enjoys running up his heart rate with them. I guess one of these days I'll stick both of the 10X's in a flying plane and sell them off as a combo at a fabulous price. By then all the voltage, binding, heat related issues will have settled out and 2.4 will be everyday reliable as the 72 stuff is. I'm working on a pair of sunglasses that control the plane by thought process. I'll be introducing this low-cost outfit around April Fool's Day so stay tuned. As for the poll......... I give one vote to 72 mhz and one vote to 2.4. How's zat for fairness!!?? |

Your poll isn't very well thought out, as some (many?) people have neither "switched" nor "not switched", but continue to fly 72Mhz while also using 2.4Ghz - 2.4 AND 72. Since my implementation isn't a binary decision, I guess I can't vote. As for "brand wars", if your intention was really to determine "2.4 or 72", you could have left the brands out of the poll altogether. As it is, it's just another brand war popularity contest thinly veiled as a frequency poll. Just as transparent as all the other brand wars.

As far as 2.4 and 72, The poll might be a multiple choice, try to vote for both, if that doesn't work, either vote for what you prefer, or like you said, don't vote at all. ![]() Thanks for your constructive criticizm!

I thought you gave a pretty good cross section to vote for......... You did forget the section on 40 year old plus radios that work on red/white, purple/white, green/white, etc. and the part about running in the direction of your plane when it was out of control with your antenna held high over your head while yelling "I AIN'T GOT IT!!!! at the top of your lungs.......... See! I've flown 3D for years and years! They just had a different name for it back then...... Out of Control!! LOL! Anyway......... Good poll! WT

I personally want a Kraft single stick AM radio, but I'm probably the only one, Heck, I might be the only one on FG to have flown an AM radio extensively,,,,LOL! But I digress,,,
