The best way to minimize slop, and keep forces low on the hinge and pushrod and the servo is with a long servo arm AND a long Control horn on the flipper....

Basically, 3D guys go for about 45 degrees of deflection... using a 2'ish inch servo arm and a 2'ish inch control horn will have lower forces on the system then if both are 1'ish inches

that is only correct assuming that the surface horn will be kept the same length.

Its a ratio, you have 2" servo 1" surface you have 1/2 the torque
If you have 2" servo and 2" surface you have 1/1 torque
if you have 1" servo and 2" surface you have 2/1 torque

And adding to what Ian said. A longer surface horn in relation to the servo arm puts less stress on the servo and gears.

I have posted this before . A ratio of 1:1 with the HiTec 7950 servo run off of straight A123 batteries is enough power to potentially damage the plane if you like flying at WOT and nailing the sticks. These servos center perfectly and don't jitter or wear out prematurely.

it is pretty tough to argue with the geartrain of the Hitec Titanium servos. i have had several 5955's and 7955's and i am looking forward to trying the 7950's! i will mention as well that my edge currently has 8711's on her and they sure are precise. the gears are noticably wearing though. oh well, gear sets are cheap.

you probably can't make a "Bad" decision on any of the products listed here! with that being said, maybe you will wish to go with what the guys you fly with are familiar with. it is always good to have other folks at the field that are familiar with your products so in time of question, there are answers!

good luck to you!

Really?!?!?! $139.99 for the servo then having to spend another $36 on gears?!?!? Not to mention tax, shipping and the pain of installing them!

There is no question that all the top brands best servos are awesome, but other than brand loyalty... with features like Ti gears, high voltage, programmability, warranty, not to mention performance and price... the 7950 has everyone covered! Support the brand you feel most comfortable with, but can you really say that anything is truely better than the 7950?!?!?!

Sorry guys... I'll get off the soapbox now. Sometimes I can't help myself!

Mike.

mike you said it then,

I will always fly hitec servos, my new 42% Dalton will be running 10 hitec 7950's and 1 7940 for the throttle. One question do you think the engine will be ok with a .06 7940 on it. I think the response will be ok. The engine I will be using is a DA-170

I have nothing by hitec servos in all my planes

The 7940 is fine, but the engine can only rev up so quickly so the extra speed probably won't be that noticable. Let us know what you experience though. It may just be the hot ticket!
