I did three different designs just for something to do. Basic difference was the case and the length.

Great idea! I'm using vectorworks almost exclusively at the moment (.vwx file type) but i've also dabled in solidworks and learnt the basics of CAD with pro-desktop. I've attached some pictures of my first project this year which involved a 3D modelling and orthographic presentation (among other things) of a mechanical device, I chose a fuel pump

Only complaint about vectorworks is it's rendering capability, it's very processor intensive (more than other programs with higher quality rendering, Rhino CAD with Flamingo rendering engine for example) and the final rendering quality isn't as good as it could be.

Just noticed this thread, this is great ! I draw in 2D OK but 3D not so good yet, I can do some 3D in BobCad and I started trying to learn Solid works on my own but have not had time to spend learning it, 2D I draw in AutoCad, I have a 3 axis CNC router that I built and I'm a Tool & Die maker by trade and have a 3 axis CNC bed mill here at work. Looking forward to sharing some files !

Great thread! I've been a gunmaker for the last ten years. Work with MC9, X allot and I have a four axis CNC tool room mill at home along with a B/S hydraulic surface grinder. Still looking for a turning center. . .

Cheers!
