BTW, you do know that you are limited by your weakest servo. Are you going for throw or power?

Look again... see how long the arm is on the tillar connection....
I have more available power with this then a traditional rudder rack

watch the below linked video.....look at the travel on the tillar.... same as all the rest.... plus'n'minus about 80 degrees....

Looks good. Just not seeing it being better.

Looks like you have short servo arms sending the same mechanical advantage (rotation in degrees) that a normal tray would have with the same tiller arm. It all computes out in the end.

Advantage: not matching servo travel.
Disadvantages: loosing efficency in over coming the sliding tray friction and redundancy.

Sry, I look at stuff like this for a living.

What is the angular rotation of the servos and the tiller arm. If the servo travel in degrees is greater than the tiller arm then yes i will agree you have more power in a frictionless world.

You can do the same with a trditional tray if you only use one connection rod going from the last servo and the tiller arm if the connection point on the tiller arm is farther away from the center of rotation than the connection point on the servo.

No worries... I am used to defending my designs!!! lol...

the difference here though.. is I am using 120 degrees of travel on the servos instead of 80 or 90 degrees which is more typical...

The friction of the tray will be very low... but the added mass might slow down the acceleration of the control surface... my feeling is it won't be perceptable... but I will find out in testing....

BINGO!!!! That was my first choice actually....
My concern is a servo that just locks up....

Back to the question at hand. I use Inventor 2010. I would like to see play with your assemble file of your 3d plane.

Currently use SolidWorks, but have experience with Unigraphics, a tad of Inventor, Mechanical Desktop and a couple other budget ones, also a half dozen CAM programs.
I like the ease of SolidWorks, fairly straight forward and user friendly, but I really like UG, it's just not as user friendly, but it is more powerful.

Anyway, here's a couple pics of my "almost" finished scratch built Me 309 I designed in SolidWorks '04, it's whats on my home PC.

I have almost completed a weight loss program for my plane design - here is the new look. The differences may not be too obvious but I have shaved quite a lot of material. Just got to finalise the nose end now.

I have promised "rcpilot82" he can have a crack at building it and hopefully he will be kind enough to post the results here. "Pro 1 Foam" - my design was created in Inventor 2009 so you would have no problem importing it. As stated above I am making a few tweeks at the moment but I will let everyone known when it is finished.

"Spooky," that's one super model of a somewhat unusual subject, please let me know how she flies? (pictures as well if possible).

Has anyone else got any other designs on the go that they would care to showcase?

Regards all,

Dave

Your plane looks good esc, nice work.

Well, until the lockout/reset on the Spektrum receiver on the maiden, everything looked good, only pics I have are of the aftermath, it looks worse than it is, but she'll be flying again soon.

Bummer! Hope you repair it; it's a gorgeous model. I love the covering.
