I am curious on how some arf's seem to get imdediate reviews and others never seem to get reviews. What are the deciding factors on what models get reviews and who does the reviews. Mike lee always seem to do Goldberg's reviews. Does anyone know? thanks

Its the level of advertisement dollars being spent. Some times not but most. Its that simple.

I can break a bit of this down for you... The models that get reviewed are the ones the manufacturers send to the magazines. Magazines do not request airplanes. When a review shows up, it can be a reason for them to advertise. Works this way at every magazine I know of... |

yae its too bad they dont send them out to the regular flyers. i have even seen these planes for sale. could you imagin. they get them for free and then they want to sale them. hey i have been in the hobby for over 20 years and i have never ever been given anything by anybody including the manufactures that i buy from. of which they keep records. just to say hey give this a try and let us know what you think. you just see the same ole guys putting out the same ole B/S of how great the plane is, or how powerfull the motor is. its makes you not want to buy there stuff. i personaly know 1 guy that owns a model magazine, who was given 6 items to try. of which they were the top of the line product they had... he then wrote the artical about what he found and liked and didnt like. heres the kicker what he didnt like was the same as complaints from customers and the problems they were having. (which the company said there was no problems) his mag to this date, has NEVER had another addvertisement form this manufacture. some reading this will know who this is, but i guess most wont. and that is how it is. its all good.. if its in print then it must be true...buahahahahahahahahahahahahhaahh think about it.. if the ones doing the review said they saw severe problems with a product.they would never get anything else to review i promise you that. these guys do the review and then just shake there heads. saying under there breath what a p.o.s. glad i dont have to buy one. lets see how much i can get for this.....

Also, often times manufactures are given the ability to view the review before it goes to print, and if they dont like the overall outcome, or prognosis of the review, they often have the ability to nix it and have then not publish the review on that item. I imagine that this often influences why you see alot of positive reviews, especially in the magazines. I honestly don't think it has to do with the authors being overly positive, but on the actual selection and approval of written reviews after they have been completed.

Most of it has to do with the company in question. Obviously the bit two (horizon and Hobbico) have the money to sponsor a couple of pretty much everything they produce for the various magazines and online companies to review. I write for another online group and they actually come to us and offer us what they want reviewed. The smaller companies are a little more complicated. Many of them aren't aware that if they were to give us a plane or product, we'll write about it. Others know but don't have the money to go giving expensive products away. This has a lot to do with what ends up getting published. Honestly I think there would be many more reviews out there if it wasn't for the lack of knowledge among manufacturers.
