OZ Crew: I need a bad-ass hat!

Dearest Crew:

I'm looking for the ultimate flying hat for those hot days, and daily wearing. I used to have a "bushwhacker" style hat about 10 years ago that I wore for about 5 years straight. I could dunk it in the water at the beach, throw it in the washer, and it always came out perfect. It was hemp. This sucker was the most comfy urban assult hat I ever owned. Unfortunately I have never found another one like it.

Case in point, I need a replacement. Something good for the field, and wearable anywhere. Durable too. I like that style, and wonder what you guys are wearing. I'm no hat dork, but I likes me a good hat if you know what I mean.

I'm currently looking at Tilly hats, and "barmah" styles as well.

From the folks Down Under, I'm sure you all own these. Any help with brands would be appreciated.

Dont know if ya gt them over there Max but Akubra hats are the go. They are made from the good old pesky rabbit skin, great hats and an Aussie Icon. I actuall where a similar style to the one in your pic mad out of pig skin.

Whatever you get don't get a dark colored hat! I got one that looked real kewl but man did it get hot!
last year at the Nall I got a hat from the people who sell the Zurick(sp?) glasses. Its light colored and has mesh in the sides of the top part. You can bend the brim to whatever shape you like.

I´ll be bringing my 20 year old Akubra to the NALL dude. As EP says, genuine rabbit fur, light and looks ripper. Its not here with me at the moment as I have it in Santiago with my planes etc. Getting ready for the big show 24th thru 26th.

I´ll dig up a picture of it some place so you can se what I mean. I have some friends who fly A340´s to Sydney from here so it would be easy enough to get you one if you are desperate to look like a real cool OZ type guy with that croc hunter look to ya.
