I agree about UPS. I got a great deal on ebay on a console for my 66 Mustang and by the time UPS got it to me it was cracked in a bunch of places. Not exactly an easy item to replace. I barely got my money out of it...I would rather have had another console.

UPS, Fedex, DHL, USPS, it really does not matter they all abuse packages. If it is worth something be sure to insure.

From experience, anything you are shipping of that size and value (hard to replace) build a wood crate so the contents can't be crushed or be harmed from rough handling. Costs more to ship, but you will get it unharmed.

Sorry for you loss!

If you ship something UPS, put it into a box twice the size of the contents, that way when they smash it, it has a chance. Insure the heck out of it, and if they reject the claim, keep re-opening it.

Good luck with that... They've got themselves covered in that regard. IF it was insured, they'll pay what it was insured for. Nevermind the fact that the item may be MUCH more expensive to actually replace.

Here's what I don't get about insurance: Why should we have to pay more to guarantee the service we are already paying for is done right? That's like taking your car to a mechanic and having him say, "If you give me an extra $XX I'll make sure I don't forget anything."

That's good advice no matter which carrier you use. I just got my QQ Python and one of the outer boxes had a couple of pretty large holes and crushed spots. I expected the worse. But when slide the outer box off, the inner box was for the most part ok. The contents where untouched. Sometimes you get lucky.

UPS delivered my 2.6 Xtreme Composites ARF without managing to damage it. However, it was double-boxed and the size of a coffin, and packed for international shipping.

Since it didn't require a signature and I wasn't home, they just threw it in the back yard with rain storms approaching. Good thing my son found it early when he got home from school.

Yes, it was insured.

I just ordered a case of Penzoil Air Cooled Oil. UPS smashed the package and returned it to the shipper. Hopefully they got oiled in the process.

The damage to your dash is similar to a plane that I had shipped from California to St. Louis, MO via UPS. Spent a few days reparing all the damage. They beat the daylights out of a heavy duty wood crate and the plane inside of it too! And the shipping charge was't exactly cheap either!
