Turn off "System Restore" (Control panel, performance and maintenance, system restore, check the box). Run the anti virus program you installed to get rid of the offending virus. Turn System Restore back on. Do a disc clean up from the main menu and then see what happens. The reason you want to turn off system restore and run the anti virus again, is to eliminate the chance the virus is still stored in these files. You can use your Windows XP install disc to repair the install if you need.
