| Hej hej ... Yes, I am new to this FG web site and the forums ... no I am not new to flying aerobatics ... I started flying competition in a 1972 Citabria N2716Z back in the 1970's ... sadly, not having enough money for play and not the worlds best I was very limited and did more judging than flying ... In late 2003 I started hanging w/the Hawaii R/C Club in Hilo @ Shipman Field ... I watched, photographed, videoed the flights to see and learn ... talking to the pilots was discouraging ... "Everybody Crashes" ... seemed to be their motto ... and at $200 + for an airplane it seemed a richman's sport ... Eventually, I bought a used SIG Rascal 40 ... pulled out the gas tank, cleaned it up a bit, made a new motor mount of Applician Red Oak for a MegaMotors ACn 22/45/3 on a MEC Superbox 2:1 gearing and Castle Creations Phoenix-60 ESC using 16-SubC 3000mAh I brought it to Shipman Field for test flights ... the glow-happy club laughed and said it wouldn't get off the ground ... KenC. was the club trainer and did the test flight for me ... in the video you can see the awesome performance even with Ken's limited flying ... "theElectricRedAirVentedRascal" http://www.brainless.org/MultiMedia/...calFltTst2.mpg I then got a copy of EasyFly from a club member so I could practice learning to fly R/C ... I had to train my thumbs 'n eyes to R/C type flying which is a little different than real airplane flying ... After a few hours learning how to take-off, fly away, come back and land in the simulator I started with aerobatics in the sim too ... all the while watching and photographing and videoing and talking to the different visiting pilots about R/C planes and characteristics etc ... then suddenly I saw the SIG Kadet Senior ... it looked like a good flyer, it looked like a real airplane not a designed scale and when I saw it fly I knew there was a good plane for me to start flying with ... I saw a few more SIG Kadet Senior's and so bought the newer SIG Kadet Senior ARF ... I moved the power-plant from the Rascal to the SIG Kadet Senior ARF along with the radio but put in new servos and voilla! the birth of; "the Electric Red SIG Kadet Senior ARF" http://www.brainless.org/MultiMedia/RC/Video/Capt.Kill4Fun/theElectricRed-SIG-Kadet-Senior/2ndFlt-theElectricRedSIGKadetSeniorARF-s.mpg All the noise is the gear box gears wearing out and the bottom of the cowl flapping on the bottom of the fuselage like playing cards on bicycle spokes ... but you can see my sim practice paid off well ... and yes, that is only the second time I've flown R/C! BTW, this power-plant solution brings both planes only 1lb. above the glow versions ... Next I added a 3" x 5" bombbay door to the bottom of the cabin and could drop a 7" long 2x4 out the bottom pulling streamers of toilet paper etc ... that was fun at 5' above the runway ... http://www.brainless.org/MultiMedia/...-Kadet-Senior/ Currently, I've been putting together a "the Electric Red SIG Kadet Senior ARF 3D" ... I replaced the MegaMotor ACn 22/45/3 with a Plettenberg Xtra 25/12 Outrunner, the new ESC is a Castle Creations HV45 and the batteries are Thunder Power TP4000-8S2P ... more power @ half the weight ... all up this gives me as much as 185oz. thrust for a 128oz. flying weight ... I can't wait to get it in the air ... http://www.brainless.org/MultiMedia/...adetSeniorARF/ (it's taking longer to get flying than I hoped because I moved from Keaau to Tucson, bought a house and have been renovating/upgrading the house ... I'm almost done!) Anyway, I'm slowly developing my R/C skills ... putting together ARF's ... modifying, repairing ... learning more and more about aircraft design all the while flying the crap out of my latest and what I think is the best simulator, Aero Fly Pro Deluxe = AFPD ... http://www.brainless.org/MultiMedia/...imVideos/AFPD/ 2Hands ... 2Planes ... 2MuchFun! ![]() http://www.brainless.org/MultiMedia/...ingExtras3.wmv I Kind'a like flying the Giles and the Yak's ... ![]() http://www.brainless.org/MultiMedia/...s-O-Fun-00.mpg I hope you can get excited about the newer Plettenberg line of motors too ... the 10KW Predator 30/8 Outrunner ... http://www.brainless.org/MultiMedia/...S/eYak55SP.htm see the 2005 TAS video: http://www.brainless.org/MultiMedia/...KWeYak55SP.mpg C U L8r, Capt.Kill4Fun ... Hey Captn. Thats got to be the best 1st post I've seen ever. Welcome in to the flock brother. Looks like your going to be a part of the Tuscon scenery so you are in the heart of it all. How does this sound regarding your little CITABRIA days. Climb to 3500 agl. Level and trimmed. HAZEL check OK Belts and loose stuff down and locked. Nose down 120, pull back vertical, full power, look left. look right, head back, watch for the horizon coming over, correct wings level if needed. Gentle over the top, let off a little back to keep the loop round, power off, down the back and out through your entry wake turbulance. YES!!!!!!! You needed to hit that wake to be sure you were still on the line. OK turn your airspeed back into altitude as quick as possible if not your stuck with another ten minute climb to do something else. I played in 150 aerobats. They were a two loop or one spin underpowered little thing that taught you a lot about energy management. Today I love the RC aerobatics a whole lot more than doing it real life. Middle age spread and aerobatics are not a good mixture. Welcome once again. Kiwi |

| It's official, thanks Verne... ![]() |
Hey Walt, Well it sounds like you jumped right in and started learning from the "do it or else" method. The electric aircraft is an up and coming era. The more the manufacturers learn, the cheaper they get, which in turn makes it much more accessible to the masses! I like the way this works .Welcome and enjoy the site!
