Smile Hello from Florida!

New guy here, trying to learn my way around this great site it certainly has alot to offer. I hope to contribute to the discussions where I can.

I've been modeling in one form or another since I was nine starting with U-control, free flight, and then R/C. Just purchased my first Giant scale a Super Stearman with a G-26 for power plant.
Looking forward to getting back into pattern flying and then trying my hand at IMAC as well this year.

Glad to be here!

Where you at Steve?

Want to see some wild flying? Make plans to be in Jacksonville for FX3D, theres some big threads about it but its going to be huge if you are anywhere within driving distance.

Bryan your right about that, the Stearman is for relaxed lazy flying and kinda neat to watch fly.

I just received my new practice airplane in yesterday a GP Venus II so I can start flying pattern again, and it will be fine to enter IMAC basic with as well. Putting an OS 120 AX up front so it should have all the vertical I need. From watching the Venus fly at the pattern meet in Apopka, FL the pilot took second in advanced class with the airplane I know, its going to be better than I am for a good while. Got to start somewhere right?

Andy,

I'm in Homestead right now, planning to move up to Deland sometime soon I hope. Bought five acres a few miles from the Deland airport, built a building with an apartment to have a place to live and accept our stuff until we can get a new home up. I belong to both AMPS club here in Miami and the Deland Golden Hawks there at the airport. I'll be helping out at the AMPS IMAC contest this weekend, looks like its going to be well attended. The Golden Hawks are having their Big Bird Fly-in this weekend as well.

I noticed you were a P-3 flight tech in the military. I'm a retired Air Force pilot flew C-130's the last twelve years. Used to drink a few brews with the P-3 crews when I was TDY in Keflavik on occasion.

I get up to JAX every so often to visit my best friend growing up, he lives in Orange Park as well. Once I getup to Deland permanently I'll have to make a visit to your field. Unfortunately I'm committed the weekend of your fly-in. I'll be in Deland, but shooting the Traditional Bowhunters of Florida tournament in the Ocala Nat'l Forest .

Great, let me know when you plan on being in town, we have a couple of great clubs.

C-130's scare me, they have their engines upside down

Smile Re: Hello from Florida!

All of this time I thought it was the P-3/Electra that had its engines bolted on the wrongway and not the C-130. GEEZ

Took a look at your club sites, what nice facilities! At the AMPs club we are flying off grass and will hopefully in the near future putting new longer runways. www.amps-rc.com In Deland the club flies off a closed runway at the airport. www.delandrcclub.com A nice facility but its limited to a N-S runway where flying is restricted to the east side of the strip with a 400' altitude restriction. The sun is an issue in the AM and the winds aren't always that favorable so alot of folks just don't fly if its very windy or if theres some crosswinds. Personally I'm not always that smart, its got to get pretty breezy for me not to launch.

I fly a lot of helo's, the wind direction is irrelevent.

The nice part of the jaxrc site is we have one flight line for helis one for planks, if the boys that don't know how to use a rudder to land feel the need we just switch runways, you can almost always find one thats into the wind.
