Yes, You'd fly one of mine (or one of the club's trainers) on a buddy box (so you don't have to worry about crashing). As part of the introduction to flying program you don't have to have an AMA card as long as you are flying with an instructor (that's me!).

There are two programs that the AMA has, one is the Park Flyer Program ($29.95) but that limits you to park type aircraft only! The other is an open membership ($58) that includes full license and Model Aviation Magazine (one of the better monthly magazines covering all aspects of the hobby).

The full license gives you more insurance, lets you fly in competitions, and lets you fly glow/gas engines, not just electrics.

I can go over all the details at your first flight training though. Let me know!

oh, i found it. I went on you website and found your name on it as one of the traineers too. It looks like you are always open to train someone. thats awesome! And you said that i can use one of your planes, or the field planes to train with? Does it cost anything? Do i need to bring anything? thanks
I think this would be a great oppurtunity for me, but its pretty far away. Oh well. i was thinking about going over there sometime this weekend and checking out the field. Maybe people will be fliying. That would be sweet. Well ill talk to you later.

Didn't know you were a junior, your AMA license is only $15.00 for the year. There is no cost to get the intro training, you would be expected to join the club after 3 times out to train, there are other clubs that may be closer to your area, that won't stop me from getting you started though. I might not be able to train on Saturday as we are having 4-Star 40 Races in the morning, so it depends on how long those run before the field will be open and Sunday looks like the weather will be bad.

The races are great fun to watch though come on out if you can!

Joe

ah man, i didnt get your message til tonight and its to late to see the races now. Although today, i did go around to a few parks. I was going to stop by the park you belong to to check it out because i was driving by there, but i didnt have the exact directions to it. i was amazed by some of the flyers at Budar park though. They were great. I also stopped by the park i live by, which is slrcfa. It was very nice, and i was very impressed on how well it was maintaned. I was thinking though, how many training lessons do i have to go through until i graduate. i was just wandering. so you said that i have to join the club after three times flying there(how much is that, thanks)? ok. Thats really cool that the AMA is cheaper.
oh, i was also looking at transmitters today, and some people are saying that if i am really intrested in the hobby, then i should get a JR x9303 I have done my research, and i know they are great transmitters. and i was thinking about getting one now just because i was thinking about getting a flight simulator. I know the JR x9303 transmitters are very expensive, but do you think it would be ok to get one now so i can use that with a flight simulator, or should i wait until i actually get a plane, and just use the controller with the simulator? Or do you think i should get a different transmitter. was looking at the dx7, but people were saying that if i ever want to fly 3d, (which i want to) then i need to get a x9303 or better. thanks for all your help. We should try to start training sometime this week or so. That would be awesome. And maybe we could train at a field between us, but i dont know if we could do that. Just a thought. thanks again.
P.S. I am just wandering, What plane would i be learning on if i start getting lessons from you. I am just wandering.

The 9303 is a great radio but I discourage it to new users...It has very advanced programing and many features that will not be used untill flying larger/more advanced planes... The DX7 is another good one but also feature packed and can be confusing to new flyers... I do recomend starting with 2.4Ghz because it's really the best way to go... I'd recomend the Futaba 6EX Fasst or the Spektrum DX6i- both great transmitters that are easy to use and very affordable... oh and all of these can be used with the simulator...

Welcome to Flyinggiants.

You should change your age on your profile to 14 instead of 20...

I fly at Spirits of stl. You should definatly join ama and hook up with someone to teach you to fly it will be much cheaper and fun in the long run.

Welcome and good luck, Matt

I think you have to contact an administrator to change your date of birth. I am not positive on this. Anyway welcome and look forward to seeing you fly.
