My name is Mike and I live in the Chicago area. I used to fly R/C planes in the late 80's/early 90's...after 15+ years away, I'm back. Many things have changed since I've been gone, and the online communities are a very positive addition to the hobby.

I'm currently flying a low wing sport .40 size balsa plane, and starting to investigate foam planes and electric power options. Electric sounds great but appears to be a very expensive option.

Thanks for welcoming me to this community.

-Mike

Welcome Back to the hobby SnowDog. I enjoy very much having both types of planes, glow and electric. I will go for a gas also. Just start with a not so big electric (less expensive).
Alf.

Look at www.hobbyking.com

Not all their stuff is good but alot of the batteries are actually top notch for smaller electrics and the prices are outstanding. Like anything though, you are bound to get the ole rotten egg. So far every motor/ESC/battery I've bought has been great. I did have one of the HXT900 foamie servos go bad right away. But at only $4 a pop it beats the $30 tag of Hitecs.

I've got the PNP P-51 headed my way and will do an assembly thread on it here since I bought the navigation light set for it. I should be able to give a great comparison since I own the PZ FW190 and a group of guys I fly with have the BNF Corsairs and T-28's. We will see how it compares to those at $100 less.

They have great prices and great batteries but don't be in a hurry to get what you order, it takes awhile for shipping. But for me, the ship time is a good trade for the price.

I'm actually in Crystal Lake which is a northwest suburb, and I'm flying with the Chain O Lakes Eagles flying club in McHenry, Illinois.

In the "old days" I flew at Shoe Factory and Pratt Wayne Forest Preserve in the Bartlett area. That was after they turned our beautiful flying field in Crystal Lake into a soccer/baseball sports complex.
