I have been flying a 3d revolution , Hydroplanes , basically anything brushless for about 3 years. Lately watching all of these flying giants has got me thinking. I really would like to move up to larger planes. Is this too big of a jump or not ? Is this possible to do with brushless or do I HAVE to go to gas ? I really don't know where to start.. That's why i'm here.. Thanks, Dan |

Welcome Dan!! Good questions dude. Giant scale with brushless? YOU BET!! But you might want to be seated when you see the cost of batts. Motor and speed controller not bad, batts will sting. I think the technology is coming pretty quickly. The good news is if you enjoy what you're flying now, why change? Bigger without a doubt flies waaaay better. If you plan on competing, you'll need to go that route. But if you're looking for the most fun per dollar, it's hard to beat where you're at. It's pretty cool going large and all you'll learn doing it. There is NOTHING in the world that flies like a 40%. BUT, there's a bunch of pilots going smaller these days. I have for sure! Not trying to talk you out of anything guy, just being honest. Flying Giants is an attitude NOT a scale!! Let us know what you decide to do. There's a ton of great help here. WELCOME DUDE!!

You're in luck Dan, this weekend there is an Imac competition only about 40 minutes away from you (you're closer than I am )! Good way to see what Imac is all about. Look me up and I'll spend as much time as you need and answer any questions. Lots of guys more than will to help. The field is located near Marshalls Creek just outside of Stroudsburg, Pa. The field is along the Delaware River. If you can make it, respond below and I'll look up some directions for you. Hope to see ya there. ..........Mark |

"Bigger without a doubt flies waaaay better. " That's my main reason for wanting to go bigger. It's been a windy summer here and I always wished I had a bigger plane to go out and fly. I flew the hell out of my Revolution 3d but the wind stopped me way too much. I will keep the hydroplane, 3d Revolution , brushless stryker , and brushless easystar for sucking other people into the hobby and the occasional parkflying. ![]() The large 3d foamies I have been seeing are very tempting and that's what initially made me think about going to a larger plane. The "super charger" from charger rc caught my eye first. Last edited by maestro7879; 09-05-2006 at 09:25 PM.

While there are no limits to how small or large of plane, most planes at the contests are 33% -40%. Some guys in lower class fly 25% and smaller as well. Haven't seen any large electric ones around these parts, mainly due to what Biff said. At this point they can get real expensive as far as the batteries go so we all run gas or glow. Here are some links to directions, the Imac site and this particular contest. http://www.ramac.org/pocono.htm www.mini-iac.com http://www.mini-iac.com/EditModule.a...er&ItemId=1620 Hope you can make it. Look me up when you get there. I fly a Carden Yak. I'll be there Friday afternoon for practice and Sat. and Sun. for the contest. I'll have a copy of the basic aresti for you so you can get an idea of what the sequences are like. ...........Mark |

Hey Dan, It's great to have you here!! There are a couple of guys with some pretty large electric planes out there. Of course they have multiple motors and custom gear boxes, things like that. It's not unheard of to have a 10 to 12lb. bird on a brushless system, they're everywhere, then all you need to do is have 300.00 to 400.00 per pack to fly it. I'm going to go there in a year or two, for my Pattern planes. The technology is coming along and it's getting safer and cheaper all of the time. Welcome to the Giants!!!

Oh, I just noticed your post says "Eastern" I originally thought it say "Easton"......town outside of Allentown Pa.. Looks like your drive will be a little longer than 40 minutes... . Sorry bout that......my bad...... Looks more like an hour and a half. None-the-less, probably the closest Imac contest to your area. Hope you can still make it. |

It may turn into an all weekend event as we will probably get a hotel room wherever we can along the way.
