I grew up being in love with aviation. You know, as a kid, you would hear an airplane and you go running outside to stare into the sky. None of my friends, family, people i work with, nobody understands why people like us love avation as much as we do. Its frustrating when people tell
me how dorky i am for talking about airplanes 24/7, but its usually the only thing on my mind!

Oh, and theres the classic: "HOW much did you say that costs!?!" Well, my friend, just how much
did you spend on that set of golfclubs? how about that set of rims on your ride? Same deal...
We spend money on what we love

I had the same deal when I took up the hobby in the Army. My buds would spend money at the bars, on rent a girlfriends, strippers, and getting inked up. I thought I would just take up a hobby like planes since I jumped out of them.

They seriously helped me pass the time when I had like my last year of service left. They all looked at me wierd when I would come in and out of the barracks with big planes in my little NCO room.
When I had my first 48 hour pass in the NCO Academy (Sergeant School) I went off to fly my Twist!

Summer 04 I had some of my best flying times out in the country with the Piedmont Aeromodelers.

Every job I had after the Army I got through the hobby. The hobby is a great way to network and the local club I am a member of now (like 350 members) is no exception.

I bring my planes to school and fly demos. Just about everyone who knows me knows I fly RC, and as soon as they see me fly they're instantly interested.

I hear that!!

I have been doing this since I was about 8, it never stops. I love the people who will freak about the price, but have 25,000+ dollar boat in the driveway that they use twice a year.

Best to have the hobby before you get the wifey. You get the benefit of grandfathering in your "space" needed for storage & building, tolerance for the minor related messes it may have from time to time, your weekends at an airfield, a hobby budget, on and on, and on. If she thinks its so gay or stupid, why would she ever hook up with you?

Just be sure she understands your PASSION - and it ain't going away before rings are exchanged.
I tried changing hobbies - took a 6 year hiatus from it and look at me now - doing bigger than ever craft. There is no substitute! Wife still puttin up with my chit for 26 years - so she has been over it quite some time. Hey, I tolerate her book-wormin' hobby!

Todd as long as I buy the same ammount as I spend on my airplanes it should be fine. Just as long as I find a way to get the money lol.

The situation just sound like typical highschool to me. Sadly no matter what you do or how old you get there are always people that will make fun of you and what you do. RyGuy has a good point that I have notice that people think they are stupid until they see one in real life. Then they think its easy to fly and ask to fly it.
Either way I will bet you more are interested than would admit to it because its not popular but I have found if its popular its probably stupid.
"I was a nerd before it was cool to be a nerd." (I saw this on a shirt somewhere)

Anyways, when I was in highschool I couldn't wait to get out because everyone is so concerned about things that don't really matter and I was tire of all the worthless drama. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't an outcast or anything, I was friends with most everyone (I wouldn't call myself popular either, my school was good about not seperating into groups of whos popular and whos not) and I had great fun but I was just ready to move on to things that actually mattered.

Anyways, have fun and do your thing no matter what.

What aircraft do you have?

i have this same problem as well. amazingly all the girls at my school love it though lol. i bring my electrics to school and fly and a whole crowd comes up. they all ask what is it called and how much does it cost. it turns into a long story. i even had a teacher make me bring one in for a class demonstration for extra credit. it was badass lol
