Default Re: what was your first job

My first job was at Las Vegas Downs dog track (now gone). Talk about lousy jobs...We had to first walk the Greyhounds around in a fenced in area while holding a long stick with a cup at the end of it. When the dog "did its business" we had to catch the "liquid" in the cup to be processed for drug testing.
When race time came, we would parade the dogs in front of the Fans. There would always be a dog that either didnt go in the pen or decided that this would be a good place to ...umm.....well.....shall we say....leave a deposit at the library! At this point, all of the fans would run up and say this was the dog they were betting on (I guess because he was "lighter"!).
Then we had to put the dogs in the chutes and run as fast as we could to the other end of the track to catch the dogs when they finished the race. If you didnt catch the dog.....it would either try to eat the "rabbit" or run away off into the desert never to be seen again.
After this I joined the Marines. It was a much easier job!

Burger King at 15.......I was making minimum wage at first then it went up and I didn't get a raise but the new people they hired got minimum wage. They could do this because as part time underage person they legally only had to pay me 90% of minimum wage. I wanted to quit right then but My folks made me put in a 2 week notice......started me early with doing the right thing even if others don't do it to you.

Well - my first really lousy job (but it paid really well) other than McD's, paperboy etc was when I was 17 and saving for college. I worked as a meat cutter and packer. Very gross and dangerous job. I lasted a couple of months and made lots of money but it was a nasty nasty job. I smelled like meat 24/7 for those 2 months, saw all kinds of accidents and stopped buying meat for a few months LOL.

Made Ice Cream Sundaes at the local Soda Fountain joint. Made minimum wage which was 1.10 an hour. Started at 16 and lasted till graduation I think.

I worked as a Chevrolet parts man for 90 cents an hour for about 6 months. Actually "parts man" was a misnomer as I really pushed a broom and put up parts in the parts bins.

You guys had jobs that ROCK for a first job! I was about 14 1/2 years old when I got a job at the local hobby shop! It was 1975 and I got paid $1.65 an hour! AND I was really happy to get it AND the shop's owner was really cool and I got to buy stuff at cost. Pretty cool for a model airplane geek. I had that job until I was 17, then it was girls, cars, full scale flying, girls and oh yeah, some model airplane stuff...

I referee soccer and soon I will be working at the county airport as a grounds person. I will be cutting grass maintaining the runway and fueling airplanes and directing them where to go.
