Default The Young Guns Championship Tournament

I have been wanting, for some time, to hold a high caliber event for the upcoming hot pilots to show their skills and their ability to compete in a "no holds barred" event. This would not be in competion with the Youth Masters, but more an extension of it. This would be an event where all the pilots would fly their own planes and compete against some of the toughest young pilots from anywhere in the world.

If I can get enough pilots interested as well as enough sponsers to donate cash and prizes, I would like to try to hold such an event sometime in 07'. This would be held in southern Ohio which might be easier for some to travel to. I would want to be able to put up some serious cash for prizes, it may not be $25,000 dollars but I don't think 2 to 3 thousand or maybe a turnkey plane for first place would be out of the question if I can get the sponsers.

This will be on the level of an XFC or a Don Lowe Master's but it would be youth (sponsered or not) ages 18 and under or maybe 16 and under. (Still kicking that around).

I see so many young guys, and I mean young, that can fly circles around even some of the most experienced pilots and I would like to give them a competition where they can show their skills and even give the "big boys" and sponsers a peek at who's coming down the pike.

This would be flown, just like an IMAC event with patterns as well as freestyle. I would like to limit this to one level of pattern such as intermediate or advanced.

I would have to charge some sort of admission and/or entry fee to help cover expenses but I am not doing this to make money, just enough to pay the bill and for prizes. (I just want to come away with alot of happy pilots, spectators, and staff without having to take out a second mortgage on my house.

This event would be judged by professional judges with no slack cut.

I would like to have input from pilots, judges, and sponsers to let me know if this is worthwhile pursuing and if I could count on help with judging and prizes.

This would probably be a 2 day event (depending on the number of pilots) with a day or two before the event open for practice.

This is very much in the infant stage but we will need alot of expert pilots to show interest and participate in order to make this happen.

Please give me any thoughts, suggestions, ideas or criticizm. I just want to do this for the young pilots out there that deserve to be seen and promoted! This is for you guys!

Give me your thoughts on this!

Regards,

Tom Arnold

This sounds awesome Tom, I hope all goes well. Keep us posted so we can fit it into our schedule. I currently fly a full schedule in Pattern, but depending on the weekend, I'll help in whatever way I can.

I am a certified judge in Pattern, which doesn't qualify me in IMAC, but I'll try to help if possible.

Hey Tom, would that be held in your back yard? lol

Sounds like fun, if it's 16 and under, i will be too old in '07, but i would love to come and help out and fly around when competing isnt going on.

Later,
Scott

Thanks Ken, this will be in IMAC in format only, basically it would be an "open" so to speak. As we used to call it in racing an "outlaw" event. So your experience in judging would be greatly appreciated. I would hope to schedule a weekend that interferes with the least amount of activities as possible. Thanks for your input! I sure appreciate it!

Scott and Stephen,
Thanks for reply. Yes, as a matter of fact, it would be in my back yard! LOL!
We have a great field out here in the countryside. Appx. 800 foot flat blueglass runway with absolutely no trees or obsticles in the flight area - its like Kansas here. We have plenty of room for camping and/or motor home parking. Have a couple of out buildings to duck into if the weather turns bad. Plenty of motels within 10 miles of the field. Central location for out of state pilots. Not a club field so more relaxed environment. You can do about anything here as long as safety is not compromised.

Still not sure on the age but if the 18 and under is what it takes to get a good field of pilots, then thats what we'll do. Tell others about it and keep me posted on ideas and numbers of pilots.

Tom

Scott,
This would be awesome. I told my dad we should make it 18 and under so more could participate. You would love it here.

yea, make it 18 and under!!! But i dont agree w\ having one class, because im pretty sure that there will be a wide range of skills. Ya know what i mean? Like, for example, some1 like david moser, he would be in the top class, then some1 who is a little newer to competition would be in the lower class. Or maybe we could have any1 who wants to enter send a video in and have some1 judge wether or not they are worthy, or too worthy...then you could have just one class.
