Show up on time and don't just stand around waiting to be told what to do- make yourself look busy. I worked at my local shop while I was in college and it really got me hooked on the hobby. Just don't spend more there than you make (personal experience).

Try not to "over talk" I see it all the time from the kids that work at the LHS. They get a no-it-all customer in the shop, and spend 2 hours arguing with them about whatthe best moster truck tire is for a stampede. The boss hates this! Do your job, and take it seriously!

You are being given an opportunity. Respect it as such. No one is making you be there. We are all human and for that reason must call in sick ( hooky) once in a blue moon. As an employer I do not feel the need to descipher between fact or fiction when it comes to excuses. PLEASE, call before you are going to be late. Not two days later as if nothing happened. This lack of respect will show you the door more quickly than any other type of mistake you may make on the job. ***** do not be hard on your self. You must learn your new job. With that in mind you will probably be making less than you think you are worth. Trust me on this though. Why put the added pressure on your self. make what you are worth at this beginning point and stick it out. If you have a good boss , he will recognize your hard work and loyalty. You make him more money and you will be rewarded with a higher wage. You must earn it. When my guys ask for a raise I always counter with a challenge that they must step up to. They feel great when they earn it and I feel equally satisfied when I give it out. Good luck |

Don't Screw around....... I work at a LHS and we had a kid that worked in the car department... he knew cars, but when it was slow, he was a nightmare... He couldn't keep himself busy without breaking something.... Product, Demo helicopters, other peoples stuff, whatever...... Just work hard, and if it is slow, which it will be, find something PRODUCTIVE to do... organize, clean, whatever.. Take the initative... and try not to be late
