I fly with a lot of guys from the Navy/Air Force that say now is the time to go in if you want a pilot slot. Fewer applicants due to the 10+ year commitments.

I dought they are short on pilot applications since they were paying pilots to leave.

I do not believe they have paid any pilots to leave for quite some time, since approx. early 90s.

To be quite honest, according to the Air Force times 17Dec07 issue, the Air Force is going to send 925 fewer airmen to flight school. On top of that, the AF will seperate 124 lieutenants.

The thing I have got to understand there is a world outside this forum. Way bigger world. People around this area that went to Riddle said they loved it and I would to. They came out to be great people and made it through life great. I am not wanting to be a big airline passenger pilot. I am just going in for corporate pilot and mainly engineering. I would like to thank you all for the help. I know the college is very $$$ and I know some of you might think its not worth it. I will visit the college at the end of next month and next week I will find out about Jacksonville University in Florida. They seem to have a good aviation program over there.

They actually just paid some folks to get out of the AF, I am pretty sure brn2fly got some dough to just get out not too long back, and they offered me a pretty good chunk last year to get out as well. FYI the best kept secret if you want to fly is find an Air National Guard or Air Force Reserve unit to fly for.

I've been out of it for way too long! You are exactlly right, the Guard and Reserves are the best kept secret out there. If I had the chance to do it all over I would push that big time !

As mentioned above, do what you want and try not to let comments on this thread or any influence YOUR decision that much. I graduated the Daytona campus in May of '06. Here is my opinion: The classroom part of the school is great and I would do it again. However, I think the flight training part of it leaves a bit to be desired because of the cost. I went in to my freshman year with my private, instrument, and private multi. I had to do my commercial there so I have experienced both FBO flight training and Riddle part 141 training. Honestly what I would do if I had it to do over again is enroll in the aerospace studies program at riddle so that I can do the flight training off campus but still enroll in the same classes. I also got a minor in aviation safety specializing in accident investigation which is something to fall back on if I ever lost my medical. It's alway's good to have a backup plan. Back to the flight training. I feel I progressed and became a much pilot pilot during my 15 months of flight instructing. If you want to fly for a living I would STRONGLY recommend flight instructing when your out of school or during school. I've been at a ATL based regional for 4 months on the CRJ-700 and have had praise of knowledge I learned in advanced aerodynamics classes and performance classes that you just won't get at some programs. The praise I've gotten for flying skills, I believe, was built on being and instructor and simply sitting my butt in and airplane and flying 5 hours a day for 15 months. Bottom line is do what you want because there is alway's a cheaper and better way, but you may not enjoy it as much.

BTW, I live in Hampton now just north of the speedway and need to find a place to fly. I'm bringing my r/c stuff up sometime soon when I have some time off and being on reserve for close to a year I'll have tons of time to fly r/c. Any insight of a field nearby?

-Kelly
