shoewwwwwwwwwa, I'm home! What a wonderful weekend! Thank you all so much helping me cope! One more week and I get to see Alex! I sure do miss him! I think next year I will fly him into Greenville, SC. for the Youth Master and then send him back to John's. Two weeks is just to long to be away from my son. Hope to see all of you on the road.

Wow. What a great event. Imagine being a bunch of kids and having the Triple Tree aerodrome pretty much all to yourselves!

Matt and I had a great time. (As far as Matt is concerned it was MUCH better than last year! No hospital trip this time.) I even flew the Hoverdisk and GB foamie several times myself. But this event was all about the young modelers.

Biff started off things the way he always does, with a short session talking about what is really important: school, sportsmanship, making life-long friends, etc. Pat Hartness gave his talk about how important school and grades are because, ultimately, that determines how much money you will be able to make to support yourself, your family, and your hobby. Lasting impressions were made. And, there was the pledge that all the kids made to keep up their grades - or no model airplanes!

Then there was the short training class on how to fly the maneuvers, given by Wayne Mathews and Mark McClellan. After that, we moved into the hangar where the kids were given the task of inspecting the planes and making sure they were in good working order.

After the official flights on Saturday, everyone had a chance for open flying. Lots of foamie action! There was the unofficial "Foamie Freestyle" in front of the floodlights after sunset. Really good flying by some really talented yound people. Matt even jammed on the guitar while Kevin and RJ flew a duo freestyle. That was fun to watch.

Yes, the Youth Masters involves competition, but the real emphasis is on making freinds, having a good time, and learing how to be a good sportsman.

I know I am going to forget a few names, but I want to thank the following people:

Bob Sadler for all his involvement, and Pat Hartness for opening his facility for this event (and not charging anything).

Kent Porter, Stan Stockman, Wayne Mathews and Mark McClellan for volunteering their time to coach and judge.

Kevin Garland and RJ Gritter acted as the "Pro Pilots" that performed the takeoffs and landings, helped setup and checkout the planes, etc.

The whole Chandley clan for the after-hours cookout Saturday night. Good eats!!

Mark Hale, Kirby and Carol McKinney, and the rest of the members of Confederate Air Farce that helped keep things running.

Last, but not least, the parents/guardians that brought their kids to this event.

Until next year,

Bob R.
