Help! First gasser

Hey all,

I posted this question some time ago on the old FC site and have been pondering the idea, while the funds build.

I am just after all your thoughts on what you think would be a good first gasser. I will be looking for something that will fly an IMAC routine well, but still fly 3D well. I am looking mainly at 3D as it isn't really easy for me to travel to alot of IMAC comps, but the option is still there.

I am looking at something in the 50cc size range due to storage and transport issues. IF I could, transport, store and affored bigger I would get it but it is just not gonna happen.

Setup will most likely be a DA50, pipe or no pipe, depending on the plane. Could also use a larger 3W or ZDZ, FPE, EVO (anything I guess) as well, it doesn't really matter as they are all available here.

Airframes are limited to Wildhare, H9, Comp ARF, World Models, Precision Aerobatics and SIG, that I can think of off hand. Name some other brands I can tell you if they are available to me without rediculous shipping rates or not

Choices so far are;
Comp ARF 2.3m Extra
PA Edge 540 78"
H9 Extra 260
WH 28% Extra or Edge
WM 27% Ulti
Dave Patrick Edge (not sure how it 3Ds though, having trouble getting info)
SIG Sukhoi is also an option but the weight looks a little high.

Feel free to throw in any other planes.

Thanks for any help.

Id say the compy is your best bet. Not a bad price but you know your getting a performer. Anyone you ask that has one will tell you its great. Few flawed ones out there that have fallen apart in the air. Really too bad. Im not sure about the PA edge but the extra is said to be very good. Good luck and have fun

bottom line is wing loading on these smaller birds. I had both a WH and a comp, the WH for the price is an Excellent first gasser. The compy is an awesome flying straight out of the box stable as they come bird. Phenomenal, however for bang up 3D a 50 is just a bit under power. It will hover, and pull out of a hover, but slow to get rollin' very good flying airplane though. The best bet for a 50 size bird if you can find one is an extreme flight yak 50 size. That thing is off the table awesome.... Look at the QQ one also the 87" version. Flys just like the 102" just shrunken.

QQ! Thanks for the reminder, we can get those here, just a matter of when the next lot comes, they are really popular.

I have seen a 2.3 fly with a DA50 and KS full length tuned pipe. Like you said, slow to get rollin but still has enough punch for me I think.

A guy at my club flies a H9 with DA 50, flies very nice, one of the most stable harrier's I have seen.

If you can build a plane also check out the ca (columbo anderson) kits the Hobbyman stocks em.

I would say I have the perfect plane for you. I have the Wild Hare 35% Giles. It has a ZDZ 80 that is not broke in with Hitec digis throughout. The airplane is in excellent/perfect condition. It is kept in my house and doesnt have many flights on it. Not really getting rid of it but if someone wants it make me an offer. I will keep the Duralite batteries and receiver. This plane is excellent for IMAC and good for 3D. But I doubt you want to ship it from Georgia to Australia. If anyone else is interested let me know.

I would skip the 50cc birds and go to an 80cc 33% plane.
Once its all said and done theres not a huge price difference and as long as you have a way to haul it you will be much happier. I would think a 33% AM Yak with a new 3w 80xi would be a great combo for not a lot more $$ than a 50cc bird.

sometimes the money is just to much for 80 cc birds. anything lower than 50 though will have a horrible wing loading. the comp arf 2*2 is also a great plane for imac!

thanks for the input guys but I think I have settled for a QQ 85" Yak.

As for going 33% it would be nice, but there is a bit of a cost jump for me, and I dont have a ways to store it.
