Default Re: Who got you in this.

I got into RC all by my self back in 99. my mom and dad have 100% support with me on it too! my dad loves to watch me fly and loves me doing this. I got my first trainer in 2000 and it was a horizonhobby Extra Easy trainer RTF. didn't know what the heck i was doing but read the manual and whent to a ball field to fly it. (don't ask) hade no idea the ailerons were reversed soo it crashed 5 secs into the flight. dad and I fixed it and didn;t do much with it. then i started going to our local club and was learning alot. also what tought me was Flightsim 98 LOL! i would use the Tower view to fly the planes. wel lthat was like my sim. I got a GWS Tiger Moth and learned the physics off that. some people at our club told me what to do to get the trainer ready and all set up to fly. I soloed first flight. was doing snaps rolls about 5 mins later lol. then every thing was going good. then finaly i hade one BIG problem i hade to learn and i learned the hard way. BATTERY CHECKING! I never checked my batterys.... and cause of that i lost 6 planes in ONE MONTH! Seriously!. then some body came over with their battery checker and checked my battery. and ever since i never hade a problem. i got about 5 more planes and was flying them good. no crashes no battery problems, nothing. then about 2 months into having good and non crashing flight my home burned down It happened at about 11 AM and my mom and i were the only ones home. the cause of the fire was a GFI switch in the wall on the back portch. at that time of day no one was home. our phone lines were out. couldn't call 911. then running and screaming. i got to 3 neighbors houses and no body was home. then finaly our friend was home. i almost broke her door down trying to get her attention. right away she called 911. by the time the firemen got there (5 mins later) the whole back of the house was on fire. 20 more mins into the fire the whole house was in flames. now my old home was a 2 story house. not a small house. watching my house go up in flames was the WORST experience ever! i hope that no one will ever have to go thru what my family and i have. my mom and dad lived in that house for 22 years well all after that about 1 and a half years later. i finaly got back into flying. and God Blessed me with 5 times the amount of planes I hade. 3 years and we still arent in our new home but we are about 80% finished. just waiting on the plumber. then dry wall.

and here I am now trying to get better in 3D imac trying to be some body in the RC world

thats my story

I owe my addiction to this great hobby to my Grandfather. Over 30 yrs ago he got me started in flying by giving me a Kit for Christmas. We spent the next 10 weeks building it. I had to ride the bus to his house once week after school. The plane is a small .20 size trainer with only 3 channels. I had a Kraft radio and servos( Top of the line back then) The plane is yellow and the engine is a OS .19 ( No muffler). I still have this plane to this day. I am in the process of recovering it so my son can fly it. Nothing like passing on a tradition.Bruce

Well i have Riverdancer to thank for that. Hes the one and only reason i got into this hobby. He actually tricked my into flying the good old eagle two when i was about 7 or 8. just started with keeping the wings level. I have come a long way and have only my dad to thank. He is always encouraging and we challenge and help each other costantly.

My dad kinda got me into this. He used to build a lot of balsa free-flight models. I got started in those models. Then I really wanted to actually control my models. I bought a radio,an arf, a field box and now I'm really into RC.
